My son, when he is tired he talks, sings, twists, turns, and then finally passes out. He doesn't let me rock him any more either. Is this normal???

Yes it's normal. It's his first attempts at controlling his environment.

I have a grand daughter that does the same thing. She's ALL OVER THE BED !!! Doing the same things.
Now that she is in a twin bed, she constantly asks me to sleep with her. I try to explain that we just can't sleep together in such a small bed ( I'm trying to get her to sleep in her own room ).
But, every once in a while, she wakes me up by crawling in bed with us. She'll grow out of it eventually, not to worry. Those nights with her getting in bed with us are getting less and less.
I've finally ( and secretly )come to the conclusion that it won't last much longer anyway, so I might as well take advantage of it while we can, but still try to encourage her to stay in her own bed.

Yes it's normal. He's getting older now, you in fact shouldn't rock him to bed anymore. If he has a crib tuck him in, kiss him goodnight, and close the door, or leave the room. If he kicks, sings, and turns before bed, that's just him trying to keep himself awake. Leave him to it on his own. Especially if he gets any kind of reaction/attention from you when he does this he will continue the behavior. And eventually, he might start to throw fits before bed if you don't get him into a routine where he gets used to sleeping on his own.

My son used to do something a lot like that. He'd wake up looking like a burrito, all wrapped up in his sheets/blankets. He grew out of it, eventually. He's still bad about pulling the sheets off his bed in his sleep, though. Hope this helps!

As my son is doing much of the same right now, I would say it is very normal. They need time to unwind, be happy your son has a a way to occupy himself. There will no doubt be a time when he wants you to hold him again and you will think....arrgh...why can't he talk/sing to himself again!??

But really, don't worry.

not letting you rock him normal? Oh yeah. My daughter won't let me rock her anymore either. You have to really cherish the time you have to hold them and rock them to sleep. My daughter is all over the bed aswell. I had to put up those bed barriers.
