purpleaura1- what are you talking about?

I am a celtic Cristian which involes God as a part of it as well as him he is usually portrayed as a man. As well as him there are females showing that the belive of more then one god created the universe.
The celtic religon was before christianaty was "born" (I guess you could say). Celtic was one of the olded religions and many people think it to be evil because they no nothing about it and a lot of cristianty came from it as well as judaism.

Celtic is an ancestry. In terms of religion, Celtic Christianity merged a good deal of the practices of Rome with those of the Pagan natives for several centuries. There is a lot of overlap in the art and imagery; for example, look up the lyrics for the traditional Irish hymn "Lord of the Dance" and ask yourself if you recognise the god behind the Christian veil. You might also look into the history of Brighid in Her transition from Goddess to Saint. It may be you can find a middle ground with some of your classmates by that means.

The strongest weapon against others' ignorance is knowledge of your own religion and an understanding of who and what you believe in. You might ask Brighid for guidance in this matter, as she is known for her brilliant inspiration of poets, scholars and orators.

Hope this helps.

I am also of the Celtic persuation . And you are right to many people do not understand it and its symbols. Even though most of the rites and and the idea of the trinity were taken from the Celtic Pagans to try and convert them to Christiany. this also includes most of the Holy days taken also from Celtic Paganson or near the same dates. lastly alot of the early monistaries were built on or near Celtic scared sites.
Pagan would be a better word to use to describe you beliefs as the word means someone who lives to far from a city with a church that they can visit regulary. So they use the symbols of the things they work with most often . fire, wind ,air, water and also spirit.
In the jewish torah there are laws for jewish people to follow if they need to stop at a Pagans house overnight and breakbread.
so if the isrealites can live with Pagans and Christianity is a sect of Jewdism. therefore the same laws would apply to them since most of the so called Christians mostely follow the old testament instead of the new testament for the most part. They are being hipacritical.
also there is differences in Celic Paganism, wicca and withchcraft. the most common thing is that they do not belive in the Devil or worship him. that is a Catholic Chritian Idea because they couldn't get the people to change faiths . alot of them tried to incorporate the two beliefs into one or whent to Christian chursh services on Sunday but pracitied the older religon in there own homes.
there are many good books that will help you to understand it better and let you answer the questions back with facts not fiction or superstion.

The word "Celtic" is actually a linguistic term for the people who spoke a branch of an Indo-European language. Ethnicity would be the specific area a person's ancestors were born in, for example, Irish, Welsh, Manx, etc. For a definition of Celtic from Dictionary.com
http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/Celtic

Anyway, I have heard of Celtic Christianity and I've heard that it is very different from conventional Christianity and a beautiful path to follow. Some Celtic Reconstructionists follow Celtic Christianity. If anyone knows of any good books, I would be interested in reading them.

You could tell people that you practice Christianity and when asked further what denomination you follow you could then say Celtic. Having solid information about the history of the Celts would help too. One of my favorite academic authors is Barry Cunliffe and his books are found in most public libraries. Another book that I found very helpful was "The Historical Atlas of the Celtic World" by John Haywood. This book helped me to understand all of the areas that the Celts conquered and the time frames. It is a very good book with lots of easy-to-understand maps.

When Irish and Welsh mythology was written down, they were heavily laced with Christian mythology. These stories could provide a lot of inspiration for you. Some of the translated stories can be found on-line here:

You can also google Mary's site to find whatever you are looking for. I wish I could help more with your problems in school, but well, if you try not to feed into it then they'll find someone else to pick on. Chin up--this too shall pass.

People in high school are often very narrow-minded and afraid of what they don't know and don't understand.

You should try to find a club or group of some kind that either is Celtic or celebrates alternative religions to basic Christianity. You will find friends there.

People make fun of you because they don't know what the hell they're talking about. Try educating them. Drop a fact about Celticism here and there. Ask about Christianity and point out the similarities. Ask them what exactly they think Celticism is and then explain how they are wrong. People think Druids and unusual ceremonies. They don't actually know what your religion is. Another thing that will help you immensely is to not express your religion at school. While that idea sucks, if you really want people to stop focusing on your religion, then you will have to stop focusing them on your religion.

I'm sure there are plenty of intelligent people in your school who don't care whatsoever about religion. I never thought about religion when I was in HS. Stop paying attention to the ones who obviously are ignorant and don't matter and talk to the ones who don't care about your religion. They are out there.

I know what you mean. I deal with the same thing, but I openly admit to being a witch, as well as a Druid. when they act all accusatory and I agree, it throws them through a loop, occasionally. Of course, then they all want you to prove it..... but don't feel too down and out about it. remember, you'll probably never see 97% of the people in your school again once you graduate. it will all blow over, anyway. Try to stand tall for what you believe... sometimes it's hard, but it's worth it.

I'm not exactly familiar with the Celtic religion, but I think that is what scares them. They know nothing about it. Tell them if only to explain what you believe. You might be surprised that they will be more tolerant.

What do you mean by "Celtic"? Wicca (revival of some ancient Celtic practices)? Druidism (self-explanatory)? Celtic, in and of itself, is an ethnicity...not a religion.
