No. The movie is an accurate portrayal of the gospels. The gospels show that some Jews were good (like Miriam, Jesus, Joeseph of Arimathea, Peter, etc.) and some weren't (the San Hedrin--those who plotted to kill Christ in order to maintain their worldly power--which is something that the human leaders of all organized religions tend to do).
It was Mel Gibson's hand that drove the first nail into Christ in that movie. This was to reinforce what all Christians know and what all Jews choose to ignore--that we are all responsible for the death of Christ because of our sinful natures.
Christ criticizes the Pharisees and San Hedrin as hypocrites because that is what they were. They represent on a broader scale the stiff-necked people that constantly killed God's prophets and twisted God's commands to suit themselves. Every Christian knows this, and every Christian knows that this is not license to hate all Jews.
It isn't that the gospels are anti-semitic; it is that the Jews are anti-Christian/goyim. They hate the fact that this nearly exact depiction of the gospels was made so visual. We all owe Mel Gibson a debt of gratitude for the making of this film--regardless of what he said in a drunken stupor after years of attacks by nearly all Jews who have no chance whatsoever to understand the gospels or his film.

No, one thing has nothing to do with the other. Mel Gibson didn't make the story of the Passion up - he just retold it like many other people have, and he even took out the line (that IS in the Bible) where the Jewish Rabbi's say to let the sins of them be on the Jewish race forever. Jesus' death was foretold for thousands of years, and it's through his death that Christians are saved. There is NO reason for ANYONE to be mad at the Jews. That's ignorant.

OK OK He may or may not really think what he said. Yeah he was drunk when he said it, but why did he say THAT when he was drunk and not something against Chinese, or Blacks, or Lawyers? Perhaps he was just responding to his perceived public opinion of him. Such a thing can be way way off, but that is not my point.
My point is, is that everyone is a little bit racist (like the Avenue Q song!), even subconsciously. Few few people have been raised around so many different cultures, nationalities and religions to be 100% certifiably not racist consciously or subconsciously. So the man MAY have racism to some degree against Jews. Prove him wrong! Be atypical - break the stereotype, and move on!

I would refer to it as a Drunk's Moment of Clarity, all those years of his father's anti-semite brain washing coming through. South Park was right all along!
I don't think anyone should feel vindicated by this. I feel very saddened that a man this influential is a Closet Anti-Semite.

I haven't seen the film so I cant say for sure. However, what with the film and now this barrage of hatred that he spewed when he was stopped by the cops drunk, it doesn't take a genius to realize what his true feelings are regarding Jews does it?
I do feel, however, the outrage has gone on long enough now and we should just let him get on with trying to beat his obvious drinking problem and definite psychological help and proper education, for his antisemitism

Is it being anti semitic to say that the Jews are power hungry?
Is dropping bombs on innocent people an act of a godly nation, one that should lead by example?

SOME OF THE PEOPLE WHO HAVE ANSWERED THIS QUESTION/PERSPECTIVE SHOULD REALLY THINK BEFORE THEY SPEAK...Many of the answers show elements of RACISM, BIGOTRY, and MOST OF ALL....IGNORANCE........the average age on this website seems to be ABOUT.......17 years old.......MOST OF THE PEOPLE ARE NOT EVEN OLD ENOUGH TO VOTE.......all I am saying is that MEL GIBSON's Career has been "OVER"........for awhile now......and yes I have heard rumors for many years that he is TRULY ANTI-SEMITIC........Shame.......Shame on him, DRUNK or NOT DRUNK.........HE needs a good lesson in KEEPING HIS MOUTH SHUT.....however, he brought this UPON HIMSELF and he will be judged by the masses.....JEWS or NON-JEWS.........it just goes to show you how little people of all ethnic backgrounds are in someway RACIST like our society is today........A REAL SHAME mostly on GIBSON's children who have a really
crappy rolemodel as a father..........As for the movie he made, FREEDOM OF RELIGION, if you like the movie, great and if you don't, great too.....FREEDOM TO HAVE YOUR OWN PERSPECTIVE/OPINION......as for GIBSON......what a
F-ck up!!!!!!!!!!!! You have to be a frigging IDIOT to get behind the wheel of an automobile after you have been drinking..........THERE IS NOT ONE SHRED OF VINDICATION for anybody, especially the JEWS ..........PEACE OUT!!!!

The drink brings out the candid thoughts of a person. I saw the Passion of the Christ in my Hebrew Scripture class last year and thoughout the whole film I was thinking, "How dare he, how completely anti-Semitic."

The passion is not anti-semetic (in my opinion), but at the same time Jews (or any group) need no vindication for their beliefs or opinions on any matter.
