Think about it, if it actually came to a point where we had to have a draft again, that would mean things were getting bad. I mean to the point of 9/11 on weekly basis and the threat really hitting home, so i would hope that people would stand up for this country. I don't have to answer that question, i am actually sitting in the middle of iraq as i type this. I volunteered. I have lost friends down here and would hope that my fellow americans would stand up if it got to a point where a draft was necessary. If not, i dont want your support, becuase what am i fighting for now?

Conscience is not to be defined by any single individual's arbitrary preferences on political action. Refusing the call to arms would have gotten a man ostracized or beaten out of any city-state in Ancient Greece, or any number of societies before or since.

It is a measure of how far political thought has matured in the West that pacifism can be seen as an acceptable course of action. However, embracing pacifism is not sine qua non for possessing a conscience. Many a man in a time of war believed in a power higher than himself to answer the call to arms when it mattered. Regardless of whether a man embraces peace or war, a decision made on the basis of sacrifice to a greater cause is sacrosanct, and justly so.

I would.

But being 40, and not physically fit to serve in combat duty, I wouldn't have to dodge that far. In fact, I could pretty much just stand still and the draft would miss me.

On principle though, I guess I just don't approved of forced servitude. If someone wants to fight for our freedoms with a gun and armor, they have my appreciation and my support. If someone doesn't, then I don't believe it's in anyone's best interest to force them to. The draft has never worked as an effective way to provide anything but cannon-fodder. That's why we have an all-volunteer military.

Besides, who would want to have someone guarding their back in war zone who cannot tolerate fighting (physically, emotionally, or mentally)?

There ain't gonna be a draft. Trust me but you will hear a lot a questions like yours about it. Fear makes people do dumb things else why would we be in Iraq today? I'll tell you why. Congress said nothing to Bush that's why and everybody knows it. It would take Congress to create conscription again and it ain't gonna happen. There is an election coming so don't forget to VOTE this time around.

well i'm not a guy, but if they drafted girls, then yeah i would go. Would you feel different if it were happening over here? I mean, just say, someone broke into your house and was going to kill your family, wouldn't you do something? I think if there were war on our soil, a lot of people would join up...if not join, they'd form there own rebel group.

I would, especially if I felt a cold coming on. But most likely, I'd just close the window better, or shut the vent.
