I'm not a drug adict, so I can't really say, but I think they're weak and need something to make them feel better, stronger, or cooler. The same reason people binge eat or starve themselves. The same reason some people turn to Christ. People who need a crutch, find one. Not all of us are constructive when we pursue our passions. Unfortunately, some misinformed souls turn to drugs... they don't realize the "high" they get, is because they are temporarily depriving oxygen to their brains... cumulatively, the oxygen deprivation leads to actual retardation. :( So sad. What's your addictions? Mine are food and shopping for jewelry and handbags.... those can be seen as vices, although only the food is detrimental to my health.

There are a variety of reasons that people use drugs. Some reasons are: peer pressure, to escape from their problems, to experience something "new"--to experiment, to get over shyness or inhibitions, to relax, to have more energy, and for religious purposes (peyote, for instance).

well, i know i take caffein to wake me up everyday, just like millions of others...at least half of the world population consumes alcohol for various reason from "getting loose" to straight being an alcoholic...the other half smokes cigarettes because they are addicted to nicotine...
By the way, any one of these drugs kills more people per year than any illicit drug...tobaccoo kills more people than all illicit drugs combined...
