Our body is the temple of God so we have to respect it.

So masturbating is a source of dis-honouring the body.

There are so many things to make your health better. So why masturbate?

Sin is sin. The Holy bible directly or indirectly says so.

You have a choice to choose heaven or hell. BUT you have NO excuse my dear.

It's hard to say. Most of the passages come from Man, man is inherently sinful and often has a political motive.

I don't care what most theologians say about the Bible authors speaking for God or at God's will, if that is the case then anyone who knows a fornicator is as bad as a fornicator themselves and women must not speak in church, for those things are in 1 Corthinthians.

Jesus even said a man nor woman can't set aside their spouse, except for adultery. This puts a large portion of the protestant sect into blasphemy if you take the Bible conservatively and literally.

Back in Biblical days 14 year olds could marry, they can't today on a realistic basis. Back then 14 year olds were barely into puberty -- it came a lot later in olden times.

It was expected for you to pick a girl and marry her as soon as possible. Hence, mastrubtation could easily be avoided.

As for today, there are so many fornicators in all the churches, mosqes and synnigoges and so many marreid couples making full term babies in 5 to 6 months instead of 9 after their marriage date, that it seems religion has liberalized considerably.

That may not make it right. So chose carefully! Willful intent is a big part of getting things wrong in God's eyes!

I was not aware that there is medical evidence it's good for your health, except maybe your "sexual health' or the exercise you get from it which can be accomplished other ways.

However the act of Masturbating is a not sin, there is a verses in the bible about a man who "spilled his seed" and this being an abomination however taking this in context, this act was to avoid impregnating his wife and that is what was the abomination.

What is a sin is Lust, not very many men at least can masturbate without lust. So that's the primary place we get the idea masturbating is a sin.

Ha! I never really heard this subject tackled by Christians. The Bible does not address this issue directly as I understand it up to this point. But others have pointed out that lust in our hearts is a sin and people normally lust while masturbating. Also, there is the issue of selfishness. But is it selfish to get a massage, feed yourself, exercise...

Both are valid points, and contrary to "religious" beliefs sexual pleasure in and of itself is not evil but a gift from God to be enjoyed in its proper context.

I think it comes down to this: why do you do what you do? what is your heart's motivation in the act?

The proper motivation is ~not~ to prevent from a greater sin because all sin separates us from intimate fellowship with God.

Since we are unable to rightly judge our own hearts the best thing to do would be to pray and see what the Lord leads.

This is an area where the Bible is not dogmatic upon the act itself so there is an area of liberty.

Another good question to ask yourself is if you can perform this act and it be an act of worship before God.

Mentally and Emotionally Defiling

Masturbation also instills certain attitudes that are mentally corrupting. (Compare 2 Corinthians 11:3.) When masturbating, a person is immersed in his or her own bodily sensations—totally self-centered. Sex becomes separated from love and is relegated to a reflex that releases tension. But God intended that sexual desires be satisfied in sexual relations—an expression of love between a man and his wife.—Proverbs 5:15-19.

A masturbator may also tend to view the opposite sex as mere sex objects—tools for sexual satisfaction. Wrong attitudes taught by masturbation thus defile one’s “spirit,” or dominant mental inclination. In some cases, the problems caused by masturbation persist even after marriage! For good reason, God’s Word urges: “Beloved ones, let us cleanse ourselves of every defilement of flesh and spirit.”—2 Corinthians 7:1.

The verse in the Bible that people attribute to being anti-masturbatory involves a story of a man that is commanded to make love to and have child with a specific woman (order from God) But when he went into the private tent, "spilled his seed on the ground" and this angered God, however I do not see how this a command not to masturbate! So go on and do it guiltlessly, but as everyone else said...no lusting... good luck with that aspect!

Masturbating is a process which causes habit....it forms addiction and likewise can lead to other more serious faults. The world will tell you it is good for your health but in essence you lose self control. I do believe it to be a transgression against your chastity. Anything which causes you to rationalize your behavior is more than likely a sin.

It's a very dangerous topic to speak about so openly.

I'm not convinced that it is a sin even though my friends all think so....

....however, if you are fantasizing at the time, it is because 80% of sex is in the mind and fornication is a sin.

The scripture people usually use as "proof" that it is a sin refers to the story of Tamar and how she was given to her husband's brother after her husband died. It was law that the brother was to produce an heir for the dead brother but he didn't want to do it so he spilt his seed. His sin was disobedience and selfishness. It wasn't related to masturbation as far as I can tell.

It is also a sin to "spill your seed on the ground" The context being in the act of marriage.

Genesis38 vs. 8-10. God struck Onan dead for doing this.

According to Lev 15 the emission that comes from the man is unclean and renders Him unclean and if any of it gets on his wife's skin makes her unclean also.

Basically what it comes down to is that God gave you this gift to be used in your wife's body for procreation not for some sort of perverse fantasy.

Yes it is good for your health. Unless you do it 5 or 10 times a day.

I do not believe it is a sin. There is not a commandment in the big 10 that says "Thou shalt not jerk off"

Peace

Its not exactly a sin. jesus related what jehovah said when he said that we should only have one master. if you become addicted to masturbation you might have it escalade out of control and you won't be able to focus on the real point of life: " Go forth now making disciples all over the earth ..." at least that's the gist of it lol but seriously, Jehovah God loves you and doesn't want to see you get hurt...
