The popular kids aren't as cool as you may think. The only way to be cool is to be yourself. If you try to be like all the other kids, that makes you uncool.

It doesn't matter if you're cool in Middle School. I'm sure that is not what you want to hear at this point. Being cool isn't all it's cracked up to be. Do you really want everyone talking about you all the time? That means you're still the center of attention when you do something "cool," and when you do something stupid... Also, engaging in actions that are deemed "cool" by middle school standards, are really "uncool" by adult standards.

If you want advice about how to enjoy your Middle School career, I'll tell ya... it's not about who's cool and who's not. It's about opportunity and regrets. Take every opportunity that comes your way. Don't overdo it by trying to do too many extra curricular activities, but you need to go beyond academics and get to know your peers outside of the classroom. Here are a list of things that may interest you to pursue:

-Sports
-Music/Band/Chorus
-Art
-Foreign Language Clubs
-Intramural Sports (played for fun, not for score)
-Drama (musicals, plays)
-Shop (wood, metal, automotive)
-Volunteer (for your church, school, etc)

It's all about finding a balance of socialization (friends), academics (school) and family. Volunteering is a great way to start networking, so that when you're ready for a job, you will have connections. Having a job is key for getting your own car one day, having your own car in most social circles is key to popularity. Most of all, behave responsibly, respect your peers, don't make yourself feel better at someone else's expense. You can be cool without picking on the person who already feels crappy about their self esteem. The people who stand out in my memory of High School, are those who were involved in student politics, sports, and music, they were also kind to everyone, "cool" or "uncool." These students went on to make something of themselves....teachers, Microsoft techs, engineers... the ones who were "cool" because they drank, smoked or had sex? Many of them were lost to car accidents, many became parents of "unexpected" children, and others, are pumping my gas at the Mobil station...

maybe...you should be asking how can I improve my grades? Isn't that why you are at school...to learn?? The "cool" kids are nothing but trouble. I've seen kids at my school (back in the day, but I'm only 20) get kicked off the sports teams for drugs/drinking, seen a pop girl have a son, get in fights over boys. Be friends with EVERYONE, because everyone wants to feel wanted/needed.

Don't care about it. Don't worry about it. If anyone calls you uncool, shrug and act like it doesn't matter to you.

Seriously. Took me three years of my childhood to realize that. As long as you don't act like an jerk or try to be annoying to vast amounts of people, you'll be recognized as 'cool'. The more you WANT something from people, socially, the less you'll get it.

...Though seeming to have an interest in everything anyone talks about or is involved in seems to help. :)

I know it's a big deal to you right now, but in 10 years it won't really matter.

In the meantime, when I was in middle school, the people I thought were cool were the ones who were nice to everyone. They weren't snobs. They were themselves, they said hi to everyone, etc.

So be yourself, be friendly...

Good luck.

Just be yourself. And don't try to pick on other kids to make yourself seem cool. That just makes you a dick.

Join a sport or a club, that way you will interact with other people than your friends, and be yourself.
