Does anyone agree with me that marajuana shouldn't be legal?

Question

Everyone wants it to be legal, but if it was, would you smoke it? You might think it's cool, but if it is, why is it illegal. Cigarettes give you lung cancer, but that's over a long period of time, and people can quit on their own. Marajuana, on the other hand, makes you mentally unable to do certian things, like anything that requires logic, and it's bad for your mind. The government could tax it and make money, but is that worth millions of people's health? It wouldn't cut down all the crime, because there are a ton of other drugs. Does anyone think heroin should be legal? No, because "it's too dangerous" well so is marajuana, just not quite as much. Think before you say "legalize it"

But I also think that cigarettes shouldn't be legal either. They harm people around them as well. It's like the smoker is killing us softly, yet, that's not against the law. So, killing people softly is legal, but killing them instantly is illegal.

i would smoke it all the time if it was legal. the reason that it is illegal is because the government decided a few decades ago that a good way to keep mexicans from coming here was to illegalize it. at the time and still today most of the marajuana that is in our country comes from mexico. i guess that our government wasn't so smart after all. as for what you say about quiting cigs on their own have you ever tried to quit smoking? it is a very hard thing for a person to do. i have read that it takes a person an average of 7 times trying to quit before they are successful. Marajuana is NOT addictive, it does NOT have all the chemicals that cigs do, it does NOT make you mentally unable to to do ANYTHING, and it is NOT bad for your mind. the government won't make it legal because they would NOT be able to tax it. Yes they could tax it when you buy it but if a person is smart enough then they could make sure that they all have seeds taken off of prior plants for the next year. as for the health of the people who smoke it you might do a little research on that before you go spouting off. NO ONE has ever died from smoking weed. but i suppose it's ok for people to drink so much that they either go out and killing someone in a wreck or by alchol poisoning. if it wouldn't cut down on crime then why is it still illegal? it is still illegal because of people like you who probably don't know their facts and think that the government is their to protect us. the government is there for themselves and no one else. if you don't agree with that then answer me this how can they give themselves raises every year , but the minimum wage is so low that a family of five would take all five working at that wage just to survive. so i say LEAGALIZE IT! then maybe people like you would get a clue.

Cigarettes are a million times more harmful than marajuana. They are extremelly addictive so even if it "takes a while" to get lung cancer (and in many cases, it does not take very long - it depends on the person) it is very hard for people to quit. How many people have you ever heard of who died from marajuana or illnesses from marajuana. I'm certainly not saying that marajuana isn't bad for you, it does kill brain cells and makes you forget things, but cigarettes and even alchohol are much worse (especially because they are addictive, unlike marajuana) and they are legal so I don't see why marajuana shouldn't be. If you don't like it than don't smoke it, same as cigarettes.
You cannot compair heroin with marajuana at all. Heroin is unnatural, more addictive, and much more harmful to the body.
Of course, marajuana should definetely be legal for medical use, but I don't really think you're arguing against that so I won't go into it.

Why is alcohol legal? When have you ever heard of someone getting in a "pot fight?". Never! People are too mellow when smoking. It is illegal because the government cannot effectivley tax a weed that is grown so easily. Alcohol is much more dangerous. And the crime is created by the laws. Before it was illegal you did not have jails full of people for simply having it and using it. Heroin is a hard core narcotic and marijuanna is not. There is a huge difference. Heroin is man made. Now - heroin was sold in the early 1900's by Bayer. Yes - Bayer. The brand was Heroine. Cocaine was in Coca Cola. These two are bad - yes. But do some research on the history of Marijuanna. You will be amazed. And guess what? I dont even smoke the stuff!

I think is should be legal. It is safer than smoking cigarettes and drinking alcholo. Marijuana is a natural pain reliever, it helps people with sleeping disorders, and is also good at relieving stress. Marijuana is not addicting and there have been no deaths caused just by smoking marijuana. I would rather smoke a joint than get drunk puke my guts out and have a hang over the next day. Can you imagine how much prison space there would be if this drug was legal? It does not make people stupid and it cant kill you. There are plenty of people who have great jobs and families who smoke marijuana on a regular basis. And you would never guess who they are. So my vote would be to legalize this so called drug.

marijuana Does not kill brain cells but ALCOHOL DOES WHICH IS A LIQUID DRUG THAT CAUSES LIVER DAMAGE, car accidents, homicide, AND HEART DISEASE AND don't forget DEATH! weed does not cause death, maybe a low sperm count in some men, but look at alot of entertainers who have more than 3 kids. marijuana is harmless compared to Perocets, Codeine, or Zoloft and other anti-depressants that cause one to KILL themselves. NOw how CRAZY is that! Marijuana was legal before but the only reason why it became ILLegal is because Distributors and the producers of marijuana did not want to pay taxes. the government want to make money off these people and so the weed dealers refused to pay Uncle Sam. if a person dies, it is not because of marijuana it is because that person or the dealer mixed marijuana with toxic substances such as coke and heroin. This is the real story coming from a Sociology and Criminal Justice major and from one who likes to read about history.

I think you need to do more research on Marijuana. It is very beneficial for people with Multiple Sclerosis and also for cancer patients.

Furthermore, I believe that it should not be a government's choice as to what a person should or should not be allowed to do with one's own body. It should be the choice of that person. I am an adult and do not need to the government to be my mommy or daddy and make choices for me. All drugs should be legal. What should be illegal is when a person commits a crime to obtain drugs, drives under the influence of drugs, or if they become a negligent parent due to their drug habit. Other than that, if a person is using any type of drug and is maintaining a normal lifestyle and is able to pay for their habit it should be no one's business!

I agree with you and if anyone has any doubts, i'd like for them to meet my sister-in-law she is so messed up on marajuana that she can't even take care of her kids or pay her bills she cares about nothing but her joint and before she started on it, she was the best mom in the world

I couldn't agree with you more! Finally someone who is against this useless addictive drug other then myself! Think of the number of people that have died from the use of these drugs, any drugs for that matter, and the effect this has on their families. It can turn good kids, getting good grades, who get along with their family and have plenty of friends, into complete junkies who would give nothing more than to have another "joint". Please join us in making the a world free from marijuanna and other stupid drugs like this.

I think it should be legal.... BUT: before you judge me, hear this part: I think it should be legal ONLY for MEDICAL uses. Yes, marijuana (like any drug, prescription or not) can be harmful when misused... but if used for medical purposes, it could be helpful. So think before you say NO to ALL the options, and have an open mind. For the reasons YOU listed though, NO it shouldn't be legalized. :) Good question.

i feel like the only reason why it should be kept illegal is because it'll only make America's youth lazier (than they already are) and it would be more of an embarrassment to the world rather than "the US is finally letting loose"
i still wouldn't smoke it. i'm too paranoid because i'm a health freak and women are more apt to lung cancer than are men.
