Osteomyelitis, is an infection. Not a cancer. And yes it can spread via bone marrow and blood, but you can take antibiotics for it.

Are you talking about osteosarcoma?

Find out the exact name of the illness that you are interested in and do a search of just the name of the illness. You should find more information than you need since a lot of medical journals are on the web. Metastasis only refers to cancer. It means that an entire cancer cell moves away from the group and tends to get into the lymph system or into a blood vessel and rides to another place sometimes a long way away. Since the blood vessels go very small in the brain or the lungs, then that is a place the floating cancer cell is likely to get squeezed-out of the blood vessel and start a new colony. Any word that ends with itis....such as osteomyelitis...means inflamation of.....which usually means inflamation caused by an infection. For this to spread, the organism causing the infection can also enter the lymph or blood flow, but it is mostly caught by white cells in the blood or lymph and eaten before it will colonize. The organism is much, much smaller than a cell. In a massive infection or an infection not able to be killed by the immune system, then infection can occur in new spots...but not so often as cancer which seems to have less trouble with the immune system. The cell is the same size or larger than a white cell, which does most of the eating. I believe that osteomyelitis tends to stay in the same arm or leg or area where it began, but I do not know why I believe that. You could look for reccurence of the disease on the web. I believe that is or was the problem? It seems to keep coming back whenever the immune system gets weak? Good luck.
