Wow; I remember doing just that. I was with this girl for about two years and I thought the grass was greener on the other side. So I said "why don't we see other people for a while" What I was really saying was why don't I see other people and see if it is greener on the other side and you wait til I find out. Anyway I found out it wasn't and she found out it was. If you really like this guy, give him his space but act like you're taking your space. In other words if you love someone set them free and if they come back they're yours and if they don't they never was.
By the way I said those words to her in 1982 and regretted them for many years. I was extremely depressed when I realized how much I loved her and I blew it.

Sometimes, guys begin to feel like they are hemmed in, you know, you are getting too close. They feel that they are loosing some of their freedom & they won't be able to do some of the things they used to. Lots of times it has nothing to do with other girls, just the fact that you are spending lots of time together & he doesn't want to get tired of you. On the flip side, it could be that he's getting tired of being together everyday & just needs some space & time to himself. If you are not married then he's feeling the pressure. Married people don't feel as bad about it because they know they are going to have to deal with that person everyday. Boyfriend/girlfriend relationships are just that, a committment without the wedding ring but still able to step back when they feel their personal space is being threatened or taken away. But if you're sure he's seeing no one else, then you have nothing to worry about. Are you sure?

He may be feeling smothered. It's also a good excuse to break up. You should check this out as a loss and move on.

IT MAY BE A LOT OF REASONS, THAT HE NEED TIME APART
BUT YOU NEED TO GIVE HIM THE SPACE HE NEED, BUT
THERE MAY BE A SOMEONE ELSE. BUT TALK TO HIM
AND GIVE HIM WHAT HE NEED.
