1. In the Bible's book of Deuteronomy it says that if a man marries a woman and then decides that he hates her, he can claim she wasn't a virgin when they married. At that point her father must prove she was a virgin. (How is not explained.) If he can't, then the woman is to be stoned to death at her father's doorstep. (22:13-21)

2. If you see a pretty woman among your captives and would like her for a wife, then bring her home and "go in unto her." Later, if you decide you don't like her, you can simply "let her go." (Deuteronomy 21:11-14)

3. If a betrothed virgin is raped in the city and doesn't cry out loud enough, then "the men of the city shall stone her to death." (Deuteronomy 22:23-24)

4. In the book of Esther the king apparently decrees a sex contest among young virgin women to see who can best please him. He subsequently finds Esther the best at this, so he makes her queen. (Note ancient painting on the left.)

However, since women are viewed as inherently dirty, Esther must be "purified" for twelve months before she can be made queen. (Esther 2:8-9, 12-17)

5. Paul points out in New Testament Romans that "the natural use" of women is to provide men with sex. (Romans 1:27)

6. Heaven is to be inhabited by 144,000 virgin men who have not been "defiled" by women. (RE 14:1-4) [One wonders how this squares with God's command to, "Be fruitful and multiply...(Genesis 1:28)?]

7. A group of sexual depraved men beat on the door of an old man's house demanding that he turn over to them a male house guest. Instead, the old man offers his virgin daughter and his guest's wife: "Behold, here are my virgin daughter and his concubine (wife); let me bring them out now. Ravish them and do with them what seems good to you; but against this man do not do so vile a thing." The women were subsequently ravished and killed. (JG 19:22-29)

8. In Exod. 21:7 we see that it is permissible to sell one's daughter (but apparently not one's son) into slavery.

9. According to St. Jerome, "Nothing is so unclean as a woman in her periods; what she touches she causes to be unclean." In Leviticus (12:2:5) it states, "If a woman conceives and bears a male child, she shall be ceremonially unclean seven days...if she bears a female child she shall be unclean two weeks...."

10. "A woman dropped a stone on his head and cracked his skull. Hurriedly he called to his armor-bearer, 'Draw your sword and kill me, so that they can't say a woman killed me.' So his servant ran him through, and he died." (Judges 9:53-54)

11. Under God's direction, Moses' army kills all the adult males, but they mercifully just take the women and children captive. When Moses learns that they left some women and children alive, he angrily says: "Kill every male among the little ones, and kill every woman that hath known man by lying with him." (31:1-54) Throughout Bible history God is said to demand that thousands, if not millions, of men, women and children be slaughtered. And they are.

12. And where do these go? - A man has an obligation to produce a child with his brother's widow. If he refuses, his sister-in-law is to spit in his face in front of the elders. (Deuteronomy 25:5-9) And in case you are Jewish, you may be familiar with the Jewish prayer: "Blessed be the God who has not created me a heathen, a slave or a woman."

The answer to your question is NO. Christians don't look down on woman.

If you need clarification on bible verses, just ask, there will be some who have a clearer picture of what the verses are saying when you don't understand them.

For verses in Deuteronomy like those you mentioned, God never intend for people to divorce, "Have you not read, that He who created them from the beginning made them male and female, and said, 'For this cause a man shall leave his father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife; and the two shall become one flesh'? Consequently they are no longer two, but one flesh. What therefore God has joined together, let no man separate" (Matt. 19:3-6). So the verses you see in Deuteronomy are set by man and not by God. And the people who set them are Jews. Not Christians, not all Jews believe in Jesus Christ so they are not Christians.

Those verses in the book of Esther is talking about this king Ahasuerus (most likely a title) who reigned over one hundred and twenty-seven provinces, from India to Ethiopia. They are talking about what people in those days in the kingdom of King Ahasuerus believe. Again, these people are not Jews and definitely not Christians (Christ haven't come yet)

Romans 1:27 is talking about man is suppose to have sex with woman and not man with man or man with animals or what have you.

Lev 12:2-5 is a woman thing, at that period of time, medical is not so advanced yet to handle post birth issues that woman faces.

Rev 14:4 is talking about 144K choosen to follow the Lamb. The bible never says not to have sex. Still there are those who CHOOSE to be virgin.

Next time ask first, don't take verses out of context to prove something that is not. Have a nice day.

The Bible, while supposedly the word of God, was written by males who lived in a patriachal society. Therefore the words could be influenced by their views and then forced upon women to keep them the inferior gender.

Today, however, Christians simply skip over these parts of the Bible for a looser interpretation. And since many people haven't read the entire Bible, they are ignorant of the details not mentioned in that week's sermon. Ignorance is bliss, or so I hear.

Your interpretation of scripture is so far off it is hard to know where to begin. I will simply say this: If you will humble yourself and acknowledge your need for the Lord Jesus, he will gladly give you the gift of His Holy Spirit, which will illuminate the words of scripture for you and guide you into a proper understanding of the Bible's content. You are simply quoting way out of context without any understanding.

The New Testament was the greatest women's liberation book ever written. God sees men and women as equal. We are all created in the image of God. It is possible to twist scripture to say whatever you want to hear and believe, I suppose. After all, just look at the health and wealth kooks of today (TBN clan).

God bless you.

I too read the Bible, and every quote that you have made is incorrectly written. It is sad that you would purposely distort to try and get people to agree with your twisted way of thinking.

You make the point that GOD demanded the lives of males, females, their children, the dog, the cat, and that the fruit tree should be cut down but the fruit not eaten. But you left out how the people again and again created false Gods to worship, how they sinned in every abdominal way, until GOD rid the world of their presence.

Tears come to my eyes when I think of you before GOD, trying to justify what you have written here! Even worse, you have attempted to be His judge and Jury over His Works.

Ah, the book, written by MAN to control the people. The real book of God is written in the hearts and minds, and does not disrespect women, children, animals or other men.

All the interpretations and translations over 2000 years and you actually BELIEVE that no one alter what was suppose to be written for their own gain or to excuse their own behavior?

Well, I am a Christian. And that is not how I
see women. So, that would answer your
question.

I can't speak for the above-mentioned verses. I can't
even verify that they are accurate. To sum it up though,
"We've come a long way Baby!" The above concepts
are outdated and illegal.

I truly find it hard to believe that you took the time to even
form the question. - Get a life. The bible was written before
we realized God is a woman.

So, Imagine that you are living in a world of city states. Civilization is minimal and far between. The rest of the world is in anarchy. You have no science to explain the world around you, very little understanding of human psysiology and you have to lead a group of people trying to survive that are ignorant and superstitious. You have a lot of women who's nature it is to settle down and raise their children, but you are a megalomaniac who believes he can rule the world. What kind of rules would you come up with to accomplish your dream of control and domination?

No, this is what Christian men think about women:

"You are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus, for all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ. There is neither Jew nor Greek, slave nor free, male nor female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus. If you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise."
~Galatians 3:26-29 (NIV)

Do you really think that the Old Testament Mosaic Law applys to Christians? You obviously haven't read the New Testament! And btw, what makes you think that this passage in Deuteronomy hasn't been read by Christian women already? Do you really think that you are the first person in 2000 years who noticed that passage?

Do you really think that you can teach Christians something about our own book that we haven't read hundreds of times already?

The Bible records the actions of people and yes there is a lot of evil. Even David had a loyal servant killed to get his wife. What you are missing is God's use of evil for good as when Joseph's brothers sold him only to find he later became their benefactor. God deals with people as they are.

Read Matthew 19:1-12. Due to the man's culture in the time of Moses, he gave them some laws related to marriage and women. But Jesus even touched a woman bleeding (see Matthew 19:20-22), and touched the leprosy, even when He knew it was against the culture of His time. The laws in Exodus 21-23 are given to rule the Isralites (except for some points regarding with health, because what harmed them does harm us as well). The law of Moses is seen in the points from 1 to 3, and 9,12; and of course is not available for today. They were nailed on the Cross. In point 4, it doesn't say that it was a sex contest, but all the women were call up before the king so he can choose the one he likes better. I'd put it more like a Miss Universe contest. About the Esther being purified, my Bible says that the women followed a beauty treatment: "Before a girl's turn came to go in to King Xerxes, she had to complete twelve months of beauty treatments prescribedfor the women, six months with oil of myrrh and six with perfumes and cosmetics." (Esther 2:12). So I guess is not talking about purifying for being woman but to get beauty for the king (it could be perfumes, shower, etc.)

Number 5: Paul is talking about some men who "abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed indecent acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their perversion." (Romans 1:27). Here it's talking about homosexualism; men who exchange women for men. It's not talking about women being a sexual object, but about the relationship men-women as being normal and natural.

Number 6: Revelation is a book of symbolisms (not everything what is there is symbolism but some). A woman in prophecy means a church or a nation. I understand -though am not sure- that it's talking about churches: "These are those who did not defile themselves with women, for they kept themselves pure. They follow the Lamb wherever he goes." (Revelation 14:4). The saints follow what Jesus says above any church. However, am not sure about this number 6. If you're open for e-mails, am going to try e-mail you later to clarify this point. (In fact 144,000 is a symbolic number, not literal).

Again, number 7 and 10 are cases that need to be seen from the historical and cultural context of the text. For many years ago, until 19th century, women were considered worthless by society. In point 10, at least Abimelec thought that being killed by a woman was shameful.

Point 8: read Exodus 21:1-11, you'll see that it is talking about men and women being slaves, but the norms were different for each of the two genders without favoring one more than the other.

Number 11, I can't find that verse.

As we've seen, the times and culture when the Old Testament was written was one that did not favor women. Their culture is what in spanish would be called "machista" (from the word "macho"), in which men have absulute power over women. You know, even in the early 20th century, women did not have the same rights as men; and even today some women are struggling to gain more equality (the women's movement) with men.

God doesn't approve when women are being lowered. When the priests brought up to Jesus a woman caught in adultery and they asked if they should stone her to death as the law of Moses said, Jesus did not condemn her but saved her life and encourage her to sin no more. Also, Jews taught that a man should not talk to a woman in public, and even if they're marry, they should talk only the necessary. Jesus rejected this teaching. In John 4:1-42 to see the interview between Jesus and a samaritan woman. Note that in verse 27, when it says: "Just then his disciples returned and were surprised to findhim talking with a woman. But no one asked, 'What do you want?' or 'Why are you talking with her?'". Why would the disciples wonder that Jesus was talking with a woman? It is not that Jesus did not use to talk with a woman, but society was the one who did not talk to women. That's why they wondered. But Jesus never cared about the norms. Jesus treated all the people equally: men, women, children, soldiers, priests, prostitutes, leprosy, fishermen, tax collectors, etc; there was no one who did not feel important for Him. The english author G. K. Chersterton said something like: "The person really important is the one who makes that all the others feel really important" (1). Jesus is that kind of person. That's the way christians should be. If we are christians, then we're call up to be like Jesus Christ.

"Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her." (Ephesians 5:25).

"Husbands, in the same way be considerate as you live with your wives, and treat them with respect as the weaker partner and as heris with you of the gracious gift of life, so that nothing will hinder your prayers." (1 Peter 3:7

Read 1 Peter 3:1-7 and Ephesians 5:21-33.

God bless you!
