There is more oil than was predicted just a few years ago, due to better exploration and better technology all around.
Perhaps the biggest effect to the planet is the continued burning of oil and its contribution to global warming.
When the oil runs out, the oil-producing countries will lose quite a bit of influence around the world. On the plus side, countries like Iran will not have as much money to fund terrorist organizations like al Qaeda and Hezbollah.
Although the oil-producing countries reap billions of dollars from sales of oil, most have squandered the money. Saudi Arabia is a bit shaky, financially, right now, as silly as that sounds.

I will continue to use oil as long as it is the best, most efficient, and cheapest way to move my car and heat and cool my house
and when we use up the oil (if we ever do, when it gets scarcer we are bound to dig deeper and farther and find a lot more of it) then we will move to something else (like nukes or coal or tar-sands or whatever)
the earth will be fine
its okay
there may be some global warming, but the earth has warmed before and it will probably cool and warm many times in the future, even if it is struck by a comet that kills off most life and changes the climate completely, it will still rock along, spinning and orbitting
the earth will be fine
the question is people, how will they do
they will get along as best they can, like always

I read this on the news the other day, worst possible scenario is 30 more years of oil until all reserves are used up, most experts agree on a 100 year time, but no one knows for sure. what' s definite is that we need to find other sources of energy, the most promising right now is hydrogen, but there a lot of problems with that right now.

The next 10-20 years? Without doubt oil will be the biggest contributor.

There will probably be a need for some oil for many, many years into the future. However, the economic factors of oil suggest that it will become more expensive than other forms of energy. As those other forms become cheaper, consumers will move to them.

Yes , we will still be using oil. but expect to lean more to clean fuel, like hydrogen by year 20. It is a viable energy source but currant prices make it too costly for consumer use.
