i adopted my kitten last week and we noticed he was sneezing and coughing (sounds like a human cough not a hairball). i got very nervous bc i searched & read that kittens can die from colds. i took him to the vet & he gave him antibiotics. it will take 10 days for him to finish them. he has stopped sneezing. he still makes a sound like sounds like a growl when he starts running but he hasn't been coughing either so hopefully it's working. i will die if something happnes to him. i love him!

Please dont do anything other than what your vet tells you to do. He/she didnt go through SIX years of medical school for nothing! Vets know what they're talking about. And most likely your new kitty just had a little cold, and the antibiotics will fix that right up. Make sure you give him the full 10-days worth, dont stop them just because he stops sneezing/coughing.
Listen to your vet, and your kitty will be fine =)

Antibiotics can take up to 3 days to get results. Keep kitty well hydrated, out of drafts, and fed. Don't worry, things will get better. If the kitty is still active and not listless, everything will be fine. Give the medication a chance and finish the full 10 days. You're in my thoughts.

I know that you love your new kitten, because you took him to the vet for help as soon as you knew he was sick. He sounds like he had a flu like infection, and the antibiotics are helping. You can always give your vet a call to discuss the changes you have been seeing. Best of luck with the kitten, I have 4 grown kitties and one dog; so I know what it feels like to love animals. Cats and dogs can catch colds and flu just like we do, as long as he seems like he is feeling better he should be fine!!! Best wishes to you and your new buddie!!

It's probably just the heat really cause my animals have a hard time breathing & yes it causes them to cough & sneeze when you give your kitten some water add some ice cubes in his water or just put it on his mouth he'll love it mine do & it refreshes them also either let him sit in front of a fan or an A.C. he'll love that as well he'll be able to breath alot better I sit in front of it & mine join me & at nite or when I'm not home they're right in front of it you'll see a difference really soon just do as I tell you your Kitty won't Die I Promise You.Good Luck

Sounds like an upper respiratory infection. I agree with everybody else when I say finish the medicine exactly how the vet told you to and it should clear up in a week or two.

I agree, it could be feline distemper. My cats had it, and its pretty horrible. Go and get the vaccine now, just to be sure. They will die also if they have distemper. The vaccine is cheap, at least it was for me- fifteen dollars.
