I took my neice in and it looks like she will go home really soon. She's been with me for five months. She is a baby and I got attached.

From experience I can say she will always feel like your child but if her mom is good, then let your heart know you are doing the right thing, and, what a wonderful thing you have already done. You lovingly took her in, so it will hurt but as I said take comfort in what you have done. God will comfort you.

It doesn't matter whos child it is or how long you have them. You always get attached. Luckily you are in a situation where at least you will still be able to see the child. (hopefully considering she's your neice) Maybe ask the parents if you can still have her a couple times a week or month. At least until you are used to not having her any more.

If the mother has EARNED her right to have her child back then maybe your Sister or Brother will be mature enough to allow you to still have a relationship with the child. If not You are family. Everytime you think about her write a little note. and put it in a box when she turns 18 you give it to her she be able to recall a very special person in her life that loved her dearly. She'll know and I do not think that you will completely get over it.

My granddaughter has lived with me since birth, she is now 3 yrs old. My daughter will be getting married in October and they will be moving out and starting their new life together. I am very happy for all of them, but I know it's going to be hard not having my granddaughter here with me anymore. My mind knows she is not mine, but my heart doesn't. I guess time and a lot of prayers will help get us through. I will come to know exactly what you are going through. I wish us both luck...:)
