These idiots protest at dead service members funerals. They protested tonight in Lubbock, TX. The funeral they protested was the second funeral for this mom and dad. This family has lost 2 sons in the war. I have met their parents before and they are stand up people. They did not deserve this protest at their son's funeral. If you ever feel that you are a true patriot, compare yourself to the Velez family. You will find there is more you can do for your country.

If this kind of speech is really protected by the 1st Amendment, then it is time to Amend the Constitiution to make it illegal.

Those people, sadly, are able to carry out their foul work because our military has fought and died for decades to protect their freedom of speech.
I often wonder how those protestors think that they are the only ones who have a direct line to God. Personally, I think God is very sad at all of the things that are done in His name.

These people are espousing neither Christian nor conservative points of view. Their theology is a doctrine of hatred and not at all consistent with scripture. I am not a big advocate of so called gay rights, but I don't hate the people. On top of this they make a huge leap by demonstrating at the funerals of our service people because the military has the "don't ask, dont tell" policy. I'm opposed to abortion. The supreme court has upheld the practice. I don't protest a soldiers funeral because he defends the government whose laws permit abortion....that would be idiocy. As I've said before, these people are guaranteed the freedom of speech by the constitution and those serving in the military. As I'm not serving in the military I make them no such guarantee...they do not want to do their demonstrating anywhere around me.

I disagree, it's not freedom of speech any more than me going into a synagogue or mosque and disrupting their services. A funeral is considered a religious ceremony and should be afforded the same respect as any other religious ceremony. I would sue the **** out of these assholes.
And by the way, concerning the media not covering the Phelps clan--I live in Maine and have heard plenty about them. Too much, it's time to put a stop to these false Christian homophobes, who are seeking glory at the expense of America's finest.

I don't know who these people are, but as a conservative they don't represent me or anyone I know. I can't stand idiots like these. They only play into liberal logic.
Liberal logic says if you can find examples of dispicable people and say they represent your opponents (thereby demonizing your opponents) then you are right about everything and conservatives are wrong about everything. Then they don't have to use real logic to defend there positions, many of which can't hold water.
Lastly, these protesters don't represent christianity either (although there are some ignorant people in churches that may think this, most don't). If you look at the bible, god doesn't hate anybody.....he hates the sin of homosexuality (because it's bad for them), but not the people committing the sin.
Kind of like a parent that hates cocaine use, but not their cocaine addicted son or daughter.

I'll listen to the Westborough Baptist Church when they can prove to me where in the bible it says "God hates soldiers." I'll also listen to them when their congregation is made up of other people instead of family members. My best friend is in Iraq right now breaking down doors and arresting insurgents. If he dies for this country, he will be a hero, not 'getting what he deserves.' If any of them dare show up to his funeral to protest, I will get even. I think it's time we started to harass them, and turn the tables on their hiding behind free speech.

I am appaled by them. we had a mlitary memorial service in my hometown for a young serviceman who died in Iraq. They threatend to come here to protest the service. The people here let it be known, police and other city govt. officials that we would not tolerate their presence. I guess they got the message, they did not show up. One of their members made a statement to our local newspaper stating that they did not "miss the event" due to fear of retaliation but due to a "mix up" in their flights.
All I can say is that maybe they realized that the "Free State Of Jones" (Jones county MS)just wasn't somewher they wanted to risk showing up.
I was pleased to see the community support for this young man and his family. Everyone still thinks that we in the south are so predjudiced, this young man was black, The Freedom Riders(a group of bikers that go to military services to act as a barrier between the family and friends and this pack of wolves) were present. The Sons of the Confederacy were present in huge numbers, as were people from the community of all colors and walks of life.
Remember that these people will one day face the Lord that they claim to work for, it says in the Bible that on the day of judgement many people will say "Lord I did this or that in your name and the Lord will say to them,"I NEVER KNEW YOU" I am sure that these peole will be some of the ones who will hear those words from our Lord.
I am so sorry for the loss of two sons fighting for the rights of our country, it's ashame that they have to die fighting for the "rights" of people like the Westboro Baptist Church bunch.

I saw a bumper sticker the other day that said "Who Would Jesus Bomb". Friends and I joked that first (according to current policy) Muslims would have to go and then the Jews. It was later determined that the gay community would be saved since a fair number of them are ironically serving the Catholic church.

Please take this in all humor and in NO hate.

My plan is this. I'd like to go to one of these protests with my own "god loves IED's" sign and pretend that i am one of them and get in with them. Than, when they least expect it, just start swinging, at the men, women and their kids. After i get through swinging, i will take off my jacket that i would be wearing and let them know that i am a god damn US Army soldier. It sickens me hearing this craziness. I am in iraq now and can't believe that people like this are even breathing. I hope that family gets hit by a train. I am a soldier and proud. Don't let them speak.

For the life of me, I cannot understand what these protesters think they are doing. It is clearly not any of God's work.
I actually tried to read interviews with these people but it just seems so convoluted.
While I have no doubt whatsoever that God disapproves of homosexuality, He never ceases to love any one of us. For anyone to say otherwise shows that they have not understood what the Bible says nor understand what Christ wants for us.
These people are terribly misguided, especially when they are involved in inflicting pain on the parents of the brave men and women who have given their lives for their country.

To hell with banning certain types of speech just because you find it offensive, that's goddamn fascism and anti-American if I ever heard such an idea..

As for those protesters, fire a few shotgun rounds just over their heads. Maybe take out a sign or three, they won't come back.
