For many reasons, but sex is a big one. Just because there's no point in you dating in highschool doesn't mean there's no point in everyone else dating.

Dating in highschool can be incredible!
If you think that you can get all the same stuff from friendship that you can from dating minus the physical aspects, you may be seriously missing out or awfully friendly with your friends.
This is the time when people are young enough to have that kick of adrenaline by sneaking out your house so you can go make out and be with someone really special and mom and dad will seriously care. Messing up a bit is easier too, no moving out if you trip up. Police and such can be a little more understanding. Etc.
Which is more special, getting in trouble with your love that you planned all month, or getting in trouble with a friend?
Unless you're making out with all your friends, splurging all your secrets, and being sweetly naughty, a sweetheart in High School is something to remember for the rest of your life.
There's prestige sometimes if you're into that, and believe it or not these people will remember, they'll grow up, and you'll see some of them again. Trust me, I've seen a hairy lipped nerd bloom into the most naturally gorgeous, curvy and enchanting creature I've ever seen including Hollywood (she gives "hot stars" like Jessica, Angelina, etc. a run for their closets). And she remembered how I treated her friends as a sweet, special guy with a wickedly devilish edge.
Lass/Bro, if you're getting all this stuff and more from your friends, I seriously don't know what kind of group you live with except that it's awfully open and friendly.
Besides, it's a lot easier to date someone in High School. Most of the girls won't mind you taking her to fast food or the mall half the time, and you'll steal kisses and good times during break and on school trips.
Romance is about learning to grow with your love, each becoming more and more open with each other until they know they're solid; and then there isn't really any barriers left.

All my relationships in highschool didnt result in sex and I had like 5. I saw my relationships in highschool as stepping stones to having a serious relationship later on in my life. Dating in highschool was just status usually, but still alearning experience.

Learning how to interact with the opposite sex in a relationship deeper than friendship. Learning what you like/don't like in a partner. Learning thoughtfulness, kindness, compassion, hurt, jealousy.

I agree with you that there does not seem to be any point. You can learn about relationships by hanging out with friends of both genders.

expirence. socially getting comfortable with the opposite/or same, sex. plus, my grandparents met it Kendergarden, they have been married for 53 years.
plus its fun. to be close to someone besides just a friend. Friends with benifits is to slutty for me. a lot can happen in high school, make the best of it, have fun.

it's a good, realitivly safe way to meet people and test your boundries and likes. I've also met people who hooked up in highschool that are getting or have gotten married. Happily so in fact.

i never saw the point either but judging by the people i went to school with, it proved my point. But i have seen some couples who've managed to still be high school sweethearts. You never know until you try right?
