You shouldn't be worried about cheap, you should find a reputable breeder who knows what they are doing, and get a baby that was hand fed and is absolutely, positively weaned already! A cage is going to cost around $500 or more. Then there are perches, toys, food. They need a variety of fresh foods and special supplements as well. Regular vet visits are a must. I recommend joining the Yahoo groups Africangreyparrotclub and lurking and listening and asking for advice. These are not easy birds to raise and house, but if done correctly, it is very rewarding.

You might want to consider Timneh African Grey. I got a baby Timneh for $650 over a year ago from a breeder. You should look for a breeder in your area. Some tips are join Yahoo! Groups focused on parrots, put up an ad on Craigslist showing your interest, attend local bird shows, talk to other birds owners, etc.

Keep in mind that purchasing a bird is just the starting point. There's also added cost of keeping a bird such as vet bills, cage, food, toys, etc.

Even if you got one for free it would cost you thousands of dollars to keep. Yearly vet bills are about $200-and that is if nothing is wrong.

Cages, good cages, cost about $500 and up, and Grey's need a lot of food. Not just seed, but fresh veggies and fruits.

Toys are expensive because Grey's tear them up right away, and if you can't keep them entertained they get into trouble.

Grey's can be emotional, and even become depressed, so your life should be stable when you get one.

If you cannot afford to shell out $2,500 in the first couple of years of owning one (that is the average cost) you shouldn't get one. There are lots of hidden costs, like play stands, food, toys, and cage accessories.

Parrots can be expensive. PetSmart does sell them. Often it's just one or two. You need to take in consideration of parrot keeping. It isn't cheap.
