I know goths and have dated one before... there's a very big difference between black magic and black lipstick. There's just a huge stigma on what the mainstream doesn't understand.

I am a goth, have been since I was 16 (i'm almost 30). I've only known a handful of people who did worship Satan, and they were members of the Chruch of Satan (which has strict rules about not breaking the law, no human or animal sacrifice, ect)
Like I said, I think out of everyone I met I could count on one hand how many Satinists I've met. I've run across athiests, Christians, Pagans and the like more so than anything else.
I think the reason people have the idea that we worship the devil from watching bad TV and movies. They're just too ignorant to bother to do the research and find out for themselves.

I am not Goth, much too old I fear, but I do know many and now some neo-Goths, some Emo folk as well. Fact is, I listen to Dead Can Dance and even rather like H.I.M. ( how about that for a 59 yr old?)
Goths mostly are seeking to find meaning. They, like their parents who might have been punks or earlier hippies and even before that beatniks, are intelligent and want to difference themselves from the consumeristic, NASCAR, Neo-con folk around them. They read, most of them.
Sure they have teenage angst. Who doesn't at that age? Satan worship? Hardly! Very few really devoted Satanists out in the world. I know. I have been hanging around the pagan and occult communities for years. Satan's High Priest, LaVey, started selling priesthoods and lots of people left.
Not sure you can generalize what religion Goths are. They do love Catholic jewelry. *smile*
Anyway, Goths are okay folk. Leave them be or give them a cookie occasionally.

I have some goth kids in my youth department, and I am Baptist so no. Yet when you dress the way you do and act in a cold off standing manor. (That was not a judgment, just a observation) then you have to expect people to think that. But is it not in the goth kids charter some where that you don't care what people think? If you are a teenager then everyone over 40 thinks you worship Satan, It don't matter what you wear. Abercrombie!I bet they sacrifice cats to the Dark Lord! Don't worry about it have fun

And did you know that there are some people who want to save the environment without raming into oil tankers? Or people who are against abortion and don't firebomb clinics or murder doctors? they're out there.
They're all out there.
But we just *love* sensationalism and the more whacked out it is, just take PE.T.A. for an example, and you can easily understand why they what they do. They just want people to get the message, but when the actions overpower the message, you're just being annoying.
If you believe something that others will question you about, remember this quote that has helped me through my life, "Never get into a battle of wits unarmed." Know what you're talking about, and know what criticisms people will have against you (and you might as well throw criticisms at them as well, you know, just to be fair).
I remember back in middle school there was a little group of goths. Always wore black, talked about pain and that no one will ever "get them." The usual ****. Marylin Manson had just made the national scene and everyone associated their meloncholy to the listening of his "un-Christian" music. Meanwhile, all the prep who listed to Puff Daddy and Mace were okay, girls shaking their ***, Mercedes, yeah yeah, it's just a gangsta thing! It's cute!
I look back on those people and think they were really confused and just wanted to throw out a personality, any personality, and find some people to relate with. Or, they really knew what they were doing and to be 13, 14, and 15 years old and have to deal with all the ignorant "popular" kids? They were much braver than I ever gave credit to. Even the one who said Satan sometimes speaks to him.
Growing up is fun, it is, but I'd NEVER want to do it again ;)

My son's girlfriend is a vampire. No, she doesn't worship satan. She's had wonderful dental work done, though. Most of the friends my kids have are Goths. None of them worship Satan. Goths are just really cool people.

I am sure that some gothic people do worship Satan. Among my friends, I've learned that being goth is fairly equal opportunity. If you tend to express yourself in a similar non-mainstream manner, you're accepted as part of the group, regardless of your religious preferences. Anybody can choose to be part of a group that disregards societal pressure and does things their own way... I mean, look at Jesus. King of rebelling against society and telling the mainstream what they can do with their conformist views.

Absolutely not. I think Goths are expressing themselves by the way they dress, act, what kind of music they listen to... It doesn't mean they're worshipping satan because they wear dark clothing and listen to dark music... There are some very interesting and sweet goths out there. People should learn not to judge the book by the cover.

No, never met any one who did.... people who listen to death metal are often to be thought of as dealing with the devil since often times those bands have satanic symobls as their own, but Gothic people seem to be more earthy... most Gothy chicks I've met believe in the Goddess or like to be Wiccan... I have a combination belief in Goddess and Chirst, and I am combination Gothic listener and 80's rock listener. So, ya know... don't judge a book by its cover, people either.

Nope, they do not. Well not all of them, just a few. The goths used to be a type of religion, but now its become more of a life style. Amazingly, I know many christian goths. Soo.. yea, some of them might worship the devil, but a lot of them don't worship anything, or are -GASP- christian.

I've known quite a few goth people and only a couple called themselves Satanists and that was explained to me as being anti diety and all about humanism. They said they didn't worship anything. In your face value.
The vast majority were neo-pagan, science babies, or Christo-pagan.
