Absolutely! Raise that elevation or incline that trend mill and watch your heart rate move! Walking is wonderful, it melted 80 pounds off my body and I walked a marathon. YES- it will work.

Is Walking Considered Cardio

Walking is cardio. It will elevate your heart rate just a bit. The point to using walking as your form of cardio though is how many miles a week you walk. 12 miles a week is a good average for a decent cardio workout. It gives you the same benefits as if you run except you won't have the endurance that running would give you. Walking will just help you keep fit and not fat.

It is possible, especially if you're healthy otherwise. But you will need to have a lot of patience with yourself and some discipline too. You didn't gain all that weight in one week, so don't expect quick results. You will have to change your lifestyle for good. But don't look at it as "giving up" something tasty and comfortable, rather look at it as finding new way of living your life. You will have to re-examine what you eat, stop eating fattening food, stop eating large meals in the evenings. Stop drinking soda, even diet soda. It is really bad for your body. Can you do that? No soda for you from now on? It's not that big of a sacrifice I hope. Try to find an activity that interests you. Joinging the gym is expensive and in practice it doesn't work for many. But if you were to join a local sports club or start playing badmintone it would keep you running for like 2 hours a day 3 days a week and you wouldn't even notice that you're pushing yourself to do it. Nevermind how you look doing that - your today's look sare temporary. Free weights is a good idea but you need to know a thing or two before you just buy a set of adjusteable weight and start lifting them at home.

Your heart shouldn't ever actually "race". Then you are sitting yourself up for a heart attack or stroke. But yes, walking is cardio depending on how you do it. Cardio walking is when you see the people that do the fast walk with arms alternating swinging and some actually add weights to it. It is easier on your joints (knees) than running.

Yes, it's technically cardio. But if you're going to walk, you need to challenge yourself by walking up a long steep hill, climbing stairs, etc.

Even treadmills have a feature that creates an incline so you're always working harder.

p.s. over 4 mph is important too.

You must be in good shape. For some people, their heart would race just walking across the room. I would walk/run if you want your heart rate to increase. Run until you can't , then walk for a while.
