my vet recommended science diet (even gave me 2 sample packs) hard kitten food. my kitten wasn't eating it. he i only 1 pound & i think it is too hard for his teeth. i bought the soft science diet & he will eat around the hard. now he won't eat that either. so today i gave him some 9 lives adult soft cat food mixed in & he ate the whole thing. i thought science diet was the best for his growth but he won't eat the soft or hard? what should i do? i think the 9 lives smells better & that's y he likes it.

i won't continue feeing him the 9 lives bc my mom's last cat..she had fed him the grocery store cat food his whole life & he wound up dying of jaw cnacer. supposedly the grocery store stuff has some chemical that makes them like it but is bad for them. i'm going to try royal canin. that is what my mom's vet recommended. thanks!

Purinia has a kitten formula that my cats absolutely LOVED when they were kittens. My vet tried to sell me the same thing, and the same exact thing happened with my cats. Then I just started buying all sorts of kitten food and what not and my kittens loved the Purina food the best. It comes in a box, almost like a ceral box and if you portion it right, it will last a good long time. But just try out a couple of different brands. Just dont get the adult food. The kitten food has certain vitamines and minerals and etc that the kittens need for growth.

Many vets recommend Science Diet, because it is a high quality cat food. You dont have to feed your kitten Science Diet.. any kitten food is fine, just make sure its KITTEN FOOD, not adult cat food. Kitten foods have essential vitamins and nutrients specifically for growing kitties.

I feed my cat Science Diet, but only sometimes. It is a little expensive, plus I find that switching up cat food brands/flavors every once in a while helps avoid your cat getting bored with the same food every day and refusing to eat it at all.

There will be varying opinions, but Science Diet does have a lot of filler. Your vet prefers it and another vet won't. If the package states it is 100% balanced diet, then it is. Not every cat food can make that claim.Regular kitten food that can be found at the grocery store has more protein for your kitty's fast growth. It's your decision. If you have to purchase Science Diet at your vet's office, there will be incentive for him to sell it to you. Have a great day.

Hi just wanted to give my 2 cents. Vets tell you a certain cat food for the reason that the product of the company has some investment with the vet or vice versa. he gets something out of it .

My cats since they were baies will only eat Meow mix and it has to be the original . And to give it a hoot i have to make sure thatr after i open the bag i put all the cat food in a seald container becouse she wont eat it if it was in the bag for to long . (Picky kitty here)

Cats usually let you know what the like if your kitty loves 9 lives than more power to him and dont waste your time and money on the other stuff they wont eat . You kitty will be healthy and happy .

Good luck

The vet recommended the food because he gets a kickback from the company. Go with a generic cat food - they are all regulated.

Vets recommend things to make money. If you want the BEST food for your cat, their are specific websites made for it, and most of it is kind of expensive and some of it you grind up with fresh meat. The best thing to do its look at the first three ingredients. They should be meat, or "meal" not- meat by products. Meat by products are nasty. It is the ground up animal that they dont feed to humans!!!
