I'm so sorry you lost your dad. I 'll be here to listen, and be a shoulder to hold you up, or that you can cry on. I know there's no words I can say that will make you feel any better, but if there were, I'd be the first one to find them for you. So, know I'm here for you. Your dad was a brave and courageous man, and I wish I could tell him "thank you" for me and my family, and for all Americans, as well as all the good people in Iraq and around the world he fought for. Whether people agree with the war or not, it doesn't matter; your dad's service to our country is always something I will be proud of - he is a hero. I know that before he became a hero, he was first of all, your dad, and he will always be a part of who you are in this world; remember that. And whenever you need to talk, or scream, or cry, or just have someone sit with you, or go for a walk...I'll try to be that person for however long you need me. I care.

Tell him that he should be proud of his dad. No matter how ridiculous this war is, he died doing his duty for the country. Our leadership may be blinded by unacceptable goals of this senseless war. Your friend, his family, and his dad paid the price for this decision, right or wrong it might have been.

Your words of support and sympathy is what is needed for him right now. Not the negatives of this insane war. Those words should be set aside for another time and another place.

This is the time to pay respect to the dead. No matter what the cause was, your friend's dad is this country's fallen hero. As a friend your obligation too is to make sure that he is remembered as one. You have to find the words from with in your heart to relate this message to your friend. I am sure these words are there and will surface when it is time.

God bless you, and god bless the United States of America.

WEll my mom is in Iraq, and if I found out that she died, I dont know what I would want to hear, maybe a sorry. But I would be in real need of a hug and a shoulder to cry on, and just someone to tell how I am feeling.

That sucks. Just listen. It feels like doing nothing but it's the best thing you can do. People dont usually want to hear stupid, ungenuine things at a time like that

Words are hard to think of at this time. He needs to know that when the time comes to talk you will be there.

Tell your friend you are sorry to hear about his Dad. And if he needs a shoulder to cry on or someone to get drunk with, you are there for him.
