I have asked this once before adn I will ask it again.. why do people continue to breed? I know more than 1/2 the breeders out there do it for the money, but the other ones.. doesn't make sence. You can say it's for the love of the dog, but if you loved the dog so much why wouldn't you RESCUE the ones that are in shelters? or being abused? or used in puppy mills? Instead you are just adding to the problem by bringing more into this world.
If you are a breeder who breeds for show, to improve the breed, and not to "sell" to strangers on the street, then this question isn't for you. It's for the people who claim they're "reputable" breeders just because they let their dogs sleep inside. It takes years and years of experience to actually become a good breeder.. if you want to make some quick cash do something else.. become a stripper or something, i dont' care, but don't let others suffer because of your greediness.

Why do people have children? when there are suffering, starving children all over the world?
If we didn't have our own children, to raise, buy Reebok's, put through college, we could be adopting kids from 3rd world countries, and supporting orphans from all over the world..It just doesn't make any sense to keep having our own!
However, we DO, and I wouldn't trade my kids for anything in the world.
Its pretty much the same, when people are passionate about a certain breed of dog....If good breeders stopped breeding..then the only dogs available would be from puppy mills... and irresponsible dog owners...

If no one bred dogs, dogs would cease to exist. I do believe in rescue, but I am also a breeder. I love Chihuahuas and I love finding a special home for my little ones.
Ask yourself this. Where do the shelter dogs come from? Some type of breeder, mostly disreputable ones. So, really shelter dogs are breeder dogs, mostly of the backyard variety. People should spay/neuter their pets, instead of letting them run free to breed with the dog down the street.

I 100% agree with you on the fact that if you are a breeder who breeds for money, then you shouldn't be breeding at all. I know for us, we bought our last dog from a breeder who seemed to breed just for the money. Our dog had such bad allergies that eventually, he was killed by an allergic reaction to a vaccine. It really makes me mad that there are people out there who breed just to make money, and I was young when we first bought our dog (and he was our first dog ever), so we didn't really know what to look for in a breeder.
We bought our dog through a breeder as opposed to getting one from the humane society b/c we need a small dog that doesn't shed (we have limited space and my parents are allergic to dogs), and in our shelter 90% of the dogs there are big dogs, and the other 10% are small dogs who shed. So that's why we got our dog through a breeder, and now we know better - to buy from a reputable breeder, who breeds dogs to try and eliminate breed-specific diseases. If we can eliminate the diseases in the purebred dogs, then we can eliminate the diseases in the mixed-breed dogs, too.

Because if people did not breed their dogs then I wouldn't have my adorable basset hound puppies... some people shouldn't even have dogs and yes I agree that people shouldn't breed and then not be responsible, but if ppl stopped breeding altogether then we would have nothing but wolves running around because we would have no mutts or full bloods.

I consider it a CRIME to breed dogs or even puppy factories when there are so many good, wonderful pets awaiting to be adopted.... most are not and are put to death.. If I was in charge, I would have all dogs neutered/spayed.. I see too many wonderful pets living in misery

ugh. people breeding dogs makes me sick. i have neighbors who got a pit, bred her to another neighbor's boxer 'just to see the puppies'.. after they were weened they took the pit to the pound with half of the puppies. then they bought two pits and tried breeding them but thankfully it didn't work. eventually someone called their landlord complaining and they're no longer allowed to have dogs. if i'd known they were renting i would have done the same thing.. cos i felt like strangling them!

i agree with you. i think there should be some kind of law or restrictions on breeding and i also think that if you get a dog that you aren't planning on breeding you should be required to get them fixed!!!!
