Mushrooms offer more than just great flavor: They provide vitamins and minerals, too. But mushrooms actually provide several B vitamins, copper, potassium, and selenium. Some are even being studied for possible anti-cancer properties.
Because raw mushrooms contain small amounts of toxic hydrazines, which are destroyed by heat, it's better to eat them cooked.
Long wishy-washy details if you would like to read:
"Their legendary effects on promoting good health and vitality and increasing your body's adaptive abilities have been supported by recent studies. These studies suggest that Mushrooms are probiotic - they help our body strengthen itself and fight off illness by maintaining physiological homeostasis - restoring our bodies balance and natural resistance to disease. The compounds they contain have been classified as Host Defense Potentiators (HDP) which can have immune system enhancement properties"

Yes they are very healthy and they are sooo good - escpecially baby portabello and the regular portabello. I always cook them for steak or a hot meal but throw them in cold with a salad - hot or cold, makes no difference as far as healthy but they are great tasting either way though I know some don't like them raw.
And as for how healthy? They are loaded with antioxidants which are found in natural foods like fruits, vegetables, whole grains, nuts, and legumes. They're also in tea, wine, and coffee. Antioxidants protect the body from harsh enviroments and diseases like arthritis, cancer, alzheimers and heart problems - so they are very healthy and safe and good for your body. Portabellos not only taste the best but also have the highest level of antioxidants. They contain the highest level of an antioxidant the ergothioneine, which is very good for you - the more exotic the mushroom, the more antioxidant but even the little white button ones for salads have the antioxidants. Again, portabello has the most. Mushrooms are a fungus but a very gourmet one and used to even be used in medicines and for medicinal purposes so eat up... :o)

They fine, if you buy them at the store. The ones that grow in yard, aren't really mushrooms. They poisonous. The eatable real mushrooms, grow in a dark cave- or so I once heard. They're are different varieties. They're very good cooked and stuffed. They're best cooked. Raw, not so good, but not poisonous.

Some mushrooms have medicinal qualities, and they're said to be good for many health conditions. (Examples: cordyceps, reishi, ganoderma, etc.)
Some mushrooms are out-and-out poisonous, and if you eat even one little bit, you're either dead or you need a liver transplant to stay alive.
Some mushroom are hallucinogenic.
Some mushroom are used for culinary purposes, and some of THOSE have some slightly-poisonous components that are made safe once they're cooked. But most culinary mushrooms are just fine, even when they're raw.
In general, culinary and medicinal mushrooms are very, very good for you.

If you are talking about plain old mushrooms, I would say that they do have some negatives from what I hear. I heard that they carry a fungus or toxin. Not too sure what though. There are many mushrooms out there that are considered "medicinal" however and I would probably use them in supplemental form. Cordyceps, Reishi, and Maitake are all good examples.

If you're talking about the edible kind and not the hallucinogenic or poisonous kinds, then yeah... LOL
They're low in fat and rich in proteins, vitamins and fibre.
Some are better for you raw, and others are better cooked. It just depends on what kind it is, but either way they're still good for you.
