I got my wisdom teeth removed a week and a half ago. I now have what I call "skin flaps" on my gums that open and close. It makes it difficult to eat because food goes into them and I feel like I'm going to...stretch them too far or something. What is this? Is it normal? Will it eventually go away?

I had the exact same thing.. its probably because of the fact that the teeth were big and what you have now for 'flaps' is the excess skin.. these 'flaps' will eventually heal and go away within the next week or so.. I remember I used to get gross things like PEANUTS and CORN caught in there.. ever disgusting!!! I had four removed all at once.. so, it was just lovely! lol

It is excess skin from the areas where the teeth were removed. Eventually it will go away or lessen. Make sure you gargle with salt water to prevent any type of infection after you eat!! Helps get the food out of there too

They are normal and will go away in time. If you no longer have stitches, once the gums heal a little more and invest in a water pick. It's a great way to clean things out.

I had the same problem, everyone told me the dentist did a crap job suturing me tho. They eventually closed after a few months(it's alot of gum to heal!), but I was EXTREMELY paranoid until they closed!!! I was always flushing out my mouth so that they wouldn't get infected!!! Go back to your dentist, make him close them up, if he won't do it, go to someone who will help you! It's YOUR well being you need to be worried about. You paid the money to have it done, worry about making them do it right!!!

I had that problem too. It really sucked, with the food getting in there. You could get an infection. Make sure to gargle after eating and get all food out of that area. I suggest getting one of those dental water picks. Or, if its really bad, go back to your oral surgeon and complain. My gap went away after a month, no holes there anymore.

It is gross but your stitches have disolved and the will close over.
It will always feel that your teeth could have come in if they just left them alone. Unless you are bleeding Don't worry about it

I know it's hard to keep your tongue from wandering to them, but the sooner you leave them alone the sooner they will heal.
