I don't follow the horses well enough or bet that often but I'll share my system..If I like a name I look at the odds, 7-1 if I'm being cautious but I'll usually go for a 15-1. If there is a grey horse running I ALWAYS bet on it, or sometimes I just go with a jockey I like. A friend picked Giacomo in the Derby 2 years ago because her birthday was the 10th. Ya never know!

No selections here....but there are a couple of handicapping tips for the casual bettor that does not want to invest a lot of time:
1. Current year, past year, lifetime earnings. In general, a horse that earns more money is a better horse.
2. The other is the trainer's statistics. I know a lot of publications say to pick one of the top jockeys/drivers, which indirectly is a good idea. It's the trainer who picks his rider.

Again these are very basic, but surprisingly winning tips.

If you are racing your own horse,i'll have some good advice.

Dont stall the horse 24/7. At least let it out in a paddock for an hour. We have racers at the ranch that i bored at. Most of the horses that dont do so well, are stalled all the time.

Don't Stall The Horse All The Time- good advice for any sprot...from the fast and quick barrel racing to the graceful dressage ;)

Dont laugh but there is a horse running Saturday in England , called Black Beauty, it came 2nd last time out and one of the part owners said back it this Saturday , so i think check the price and back it either each way or to win depending on the price.

stay away from big fields especially the flat!!! stick to races of 8-10 runners and concentrate on odds of 4-1 -7-1 and bet each-way!!!

Back CRESTA GOLD if she runs in the Park Hill Stakes.

I met her owners at Goodwood yesterday after she had run 4th in the Lillie Langtry Stakes. They told me that the jockey had said it was entirely his fault she hadn't won, she got boxed in and he couldn't get her out in time. He said to run her in the Park Hill next time out.

Watch this space.
