no your doing the absolute right thing
of course the dog will like canned food,
it smells better to them, and has more flavor other than the same old dry food everyday.
But canned food is very unhealthy for dogs in many ways, first they don't digest it,it runs right through them causing poor nutrition, second it speeds up tooth decay and gum disease, and is not very nutritional to start with, they use only ingredients not good enough for human consumption,so basically it's just all the rotted leftovers of carcasses made up of grinded up bone, lips eyeballs muscle, and so on.Dry food is the best to feed your dog on a regular basis, you can boil chicken cutlets to give your dog meat as a treat every now and then. :):):)

Your dog is so lucky that you want to feed her the very best.
I have been breeding purebred dogs for the past 38 years.
Two years ago, I began feeding Canidae dry kibble.
. I have tried nearly all the major premium brands of kibble, but since feeding Canidae, I would never want to feed anything else.
My old dogs became younger, my pups grew better than ever, and the in between are robust with good health. My dog's teeth don't need cleaned, and they have Sweet breath.
Other great kibbles are Innova, Wysong, Solid Gold, Wellness.
You will find these kibbles at your local pet supply, but never at the Grocer's or Dept store.
Premium dog food costs more per bag, but less per month, as the dogs eat less, and waste(poop) less. It is a huge savings in veterinary care, as they are so much healtheir, especially as they age.

I think it is interesting that no one has mentioned feeding raw.
I worked as a vet tech for years, and dog food companies spend a LOT of money to convince vets, vet students and vet techs that the ONLY way to feed your dog healthy and not kill them or rot their teeth is to feed them dry food.
Not true. It is a marketing campaign, folks, one of the most successful marketing campaigns ever.
I have a dog with severe allergies, so I investigated all kinds of food for her, and the only thing that works is feeding her a raw homemade diet. It isn't hard, it isn't that expensive, and she is so much healthier because of it. Her teeth are not rotting out of her head (she is 11 years old now) and her skin and coat and muscle condition are the best they've ever been.
People are very passionate about the topic of "what to feed the dog." Do your own research, draw your own conclusions.

Well, it's not cruel to give your puppy just dry food. She'll get all the nutrients she needs. Wet food is considered better but it causes tooth decay. You would have to brush her teeth every day. It's probably best to mix the two until she's about one.

Most dogs do love canned food but its really not all that good for them. Dry food provides everything they need plus as you said, they are less likely to get diarrhea and it it much better for their teeth.

No! Make sure it is a better quality food. Sci. Diet, ProPlan, Purina One, Iams, etc. Generally enhancing the flavor leads to overeating and fat dogs are not healthy dogs. This info based on 37 years of practicing veterinary medicine. Good luck
