Divide your weight in half, and that number is how many ounces of water you need to drink each day. Water can not hurt you, your body will get rid of any excess amount.

to put an actual quantity on the amount that would kill you, is very difficult to say.

but drinking too much water can kill you, and I will provide you with examples

In the media, a lot of people who are reported dead due to Ecstasy, did not actually die from that drug, but from what the person did to try and counter act the symptoms

the regular advice you are given is to drink lots of water while out and high on the drug, which in part is due.

the problem occurs when you drink far to much of this water.

now we all know what happens to our fingers and toes, when we have been in water for too long don't we, they go all crinkly, this is because too much water has entered those parts of the body, which increases the size, and the folds of skin appear.

similar what happens when you drink too much water, lets shorten this down a bit.

the membrane surrounding your brain basically pops, thus killing you

shocking huh, well yes it is, most people do not die from the drug, they die from trying to counter its effects

Dear O Sullivan
For a man who is young, and weighs 175 lbs, the needed amount per day, is subjected to three situations:
Man at rest= 10 ml of water per pound per day= 1,750 ml
Man who has to be outdoors, most of the day= 14 ml per day= that makes 2.400 mililitrs per day.
If you are a professional athlet, and weat most of the day, CAREFUL because fron 2 liters and above, you must ingest sodium and potassium salts, to avoid the risk of dilutiung too much the ones contained in your own plasma, and nay suffer from low sodium or low potassium in your body, and maybe some harm to muscles, and kidneys.
Prefer always from 2 liters and above, beverages that contain balanced electrolytes in its formula.
Yours very sincerely

you should drink about 8 glasses of water a day.

1 glass is 8oz. People sometimes get confused especially if they are drinking a water bottle. Waterbottles which are the small sizes are about two servings which is two glasses.

80 ounces per day is okay I drink a gallon @ 210lb and more when out in the 90 degree+ heat doing yard work.

Watch your electrolytes and take a power drink to replenish any serious sweating.

Stay cool and healthy!
