There is much truth and much disinformation in that letter.
First, there is no such thing as an 'American' nation.
America is not a nation America is a continent with many nations in it. The US never named itself the name of the United States is a designation it comes from the end of the Declaration of Independence, "WE, therefore, the Representatives of the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, in GENERAL CONGRESS, Assembled...". The preamble to the U.S. Constitution reiterated the phrase: "We the People of the United States..." (The authors of these two documents probably used the phrase "united states" in place of a list of colonies/states because they remained uncertain at the time of drafting which colonies/states would sign off on the sentiments therein.) The geographic term "America" specifies the states' home on the American continent.
It is therefor incorrect to refer to US citizens as Americans with the intent of denoting citizenship, or the United States as America with the intent of denoting a nation. Americans have a term for US citizens, we are called United Statesians by the rest of Americans, to say American with the intent of denoting citizenship or America when we mean the United States reflects poorly on our attitude towards the 70% of Americans that are not United Statesians.
Second the immigrants that came to the States did not instantly swore off their homelands, if that was the fact we would not have had little Italy or the German neighborhood or the many German traditions so prevalent in PA we would not have Whiskey and we would not celebrate St. Patty's day there are so many neighborhoods that are nothing if not a recreation of what those immigrants left behind in Europe that the States in effect had thousands of European neighborhoods in it's midst.
Third, immigrants today have the same right to love and remember their homeland as did the immigrants 100 years ago. Immigrants today toil in the worst jobs available just like those immigrants did a century ago.
Fourth, in order to get benefits a person must provide the government proof of whom he/she is, any person that can not do that will not receive benefits, that should be evident to any thinking person. To assert that these immigrants are playing an 'entitlement' card is proof positive of ignorance or an intent to deceive and confuse.
Fifth, when did it become a requisite that a person swore enmity to it's homeland once he/she lands on his adopted land? I have never read or heard of such an idiotic requisite before.
Six and last, Immigrants today are behaving in a tradition that is cemented in history, they fight with all they have to make it to the States and make a better life for themselves and their children. They come here work hard, save their money, start businesses and make the United Statesian dream their own.

I can't help but feel insulted by this letter.First off many of the people who arrive here illegally do wish to become a part of this country but aren't given a chance to.My parents were given that opportunity because of the last amnesty programm that was given out and before then not once did they ask for any type of govermental assistance. In fact I had to pay for my lunch in school while american citizens received theirs free just because their mom chose to have about 9 kids.I was taught the english language and history but my parents never let me forget that though I was an American citizen my roots were mexican and nothing would change that.I learned the spanish language and mexican culture and unlike some people I have met whom get mad because they are called "latino" or "mexican" though that's what their roots might be i'm proud to be one.And just like the lady states in her letter about how many people from many different nationalities fought in WW11so have many latinos fought now in Iraq and most of them have been illegals.Yeah I know shocking, but its true. Many enlisted in the armed forces so that their families could obtain citizenship knowing fully well that they might have to pay for that priveledge with their lives. And yet I don't see many on here asking that they ban all illegals from entering in the military, though I do see that a lot of them tend to think they are all crop pickers. So before you keep spewing more "illegals go home" and "close the borders" you should research it a bit more in depth and not let your anger cloud your judgement.
P.s here is the link of where I obtained my info from: http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/fr/884926/posts
And on a personal note I have 2 cousins who joined the military because they were told they would be granted immediate citizenship. And know of many who enlisted for that reason.

This is very profound. Also, it's the first time I have ever read it so I am glad that you posted it. Thank you.
It says a lot doesn't it? I agree with it's contents. These new immigrants that are only here for the free ride don't want to assimilate or to respect any part of what it means to be American. We don't need immigrants like the ones we are seeing now.

If I read it before-I forgot. It was interesting and yes the immigrants than-wanted to blend in this Great Nation. They learned the language-they added some flavor-but didn't try to take away from others. There is a big difference.
Eli--you are very narrow minded. With half truths--I call that deceitful. There is a whole bunch you either don't see or don't want to see. For that you need more knowledge. You can print all you want but if it is based on half truths or false teachings-its worthless. Please try to acquire it.

I think that is a great letter. It really makes the point that so many people are trying to make today. Why it's so hard for the illegals to see this I don't know.
So many people say that Americans hate them. Not true, we just want them to speak English and be proud to be an American, not come to America and wave their Mexican flags.

She put on paper what I have been telling people for a while now. "Thank You" to Rosemary!
As for tearing down the Statue of Liberty. Let them try! There are a bunch of, I think several people on here referred to us as "Rednecks", that would "tote their guns" over there and defend our "Lady of Liberty".
Really, if Mexico is so great, why are they coming here in the first place?

You know many illegals came and come to this country and do back breaking work....They work for hours in the hot sun and on their knees so that farmers can get their produce out for you to enjoy....You seem to forget who keeps the engine of this economy going, its the illegal....Are you aware, that you support illegals everyday of your life? Think about it....
I really hope they will close all the borders and send those illegals back, I wanna see you then lady....YOU will whine about how expensive everything is....Get a life...

That seems a bit crass, because lumping all illegal immigrants from Mexico as lazy, welfare-mooching idiots is pretty racist, as does the person writing the letter.
