well believe it or not in the fat burning situation its sometimes a matter of QUALITY not so much as QUANTITY
ok your abdominal muscles are SLOW acting muscles which means if you want to build muscle you do slow crunches and if you want to burn fat you do fast paced crunches, this is the "secret" of crunches that not many people actually know.
as far as quantity, do a LOT of FAST paced crunches until you feel yourself "burn out" when u feel the extreme burn in your ab area then you know that your doing good.
another exercise you might want to utilize is doing leg raises, just lay on your back and lift your legs at a 45 degree angle and then drop them, do this over and over for your lower abdominal muscles, trust me you will burn the fat that you need to burn in no time GOOD LUCK!!

Hi,
You might not like my answer but you need to eat a balanced diet and get some aerobic exercise (4-5 x's week)along with your crunches if you really want to lose that fat.
Also, with crunches quality is better than quantity. So if you can do 30 real slow good crunches, that would be better than 100 fast bad ones. Don't forget the crunches to the side for your obliques. Good luck!

You cant spot reduce fat. You need a proper diet and a proper cardio program to burn the fat away. A diet such as the atkins or south beach diet will not work. You will lose some weight at first, but most of it will be water. In the long run, these diets actually casue you to retain fat and lose muscle.

crunches wont make you lose fat. you will strengthen your muscles, but they will be strong under the fat. to lose the fat you must change your eating habits and to other form of exercise.

First ,You will need to loose the fat around the stomach by dieting..ATKINS,SOUTH BEACH,LOW CARB,etc. You just need to pick one of this diets..If you don't diet, you will just have muscle under the fat..Which sometimes makes your stomach look bigger..GOOD LUCK
