depending on the mileage, condition, prevous issues w/car and trans beetle is equipped with (auto/ Manual) i work in a vw dealership and have experienced issues w/ auto trans in higher mileage vw. if the vehicle is a diesel w/ a manual there are several miles left to put on the car. just keep up on the maint. this decision also depends on your brothers financial situation. i dont work on lexus but i have not heard of very many if any issues hopefully someone out there is a lexus tech. and would be able to give you a better insite on the lexus side. if it were me and the vehicle was anything but a diesel/manual combo i would get rid of it around 70k miles. the lexus is alot nicer vehicle on the inside. i also see the beetle as a females car, dont get me wrong there are guys that drive them obvisouly but if it were my choice i would go for the lexus! happy motoring in what ever he drives.

Is it a turbo beetle?
If it is, tell him to replace all the hoses, maybe the timing belt, and if he's got some $$$ left over maybe get a cold air intake and ECU upgrade and that thing will haul a$$.
If it's just a 2.0 beetle get a GTI

Thats like asking if it is better to date a chick or a dude...depends on your preference. I would get the Lexus based purely on the quality difference.

it depends. if he's perfectly fine with his bug, then he should keep it. but, if he's doing it because he needs more room, or if he just doesn't like it, then he should get a Lexus. it also depends on what type of Lexus and what year.

Go for the Lexus, let me recommend the IS 350. The car has balls, if u pick this one make sure to get the nav system. I also recommend the GS 450H, it is a hybrid and fast as hell.
