Did you know that they don't wash the blankets and bedspreads. Just the thought of sleeping in a bed that hundreds of others have slept in makes me ill. How do you veteran travelers do it? Do you bring your own bedding?

My cousin managed a motel, and they just washed the sheets, not the blankets and bedspreads. During a trial a few years ago they were able to obtain body secreations from a national hotel chain bedspread that had sperm from at least 5 different men!

I usually strip the bed and flip the mattress. That doesn't help much because if you notice, they usually have a little sticker on them telling them when to flip the mattress anyway, but I do feel a little better knowing that any filth I'm sleeping in is at least OLD filth. Did you see the report on um.....20/20 on ABC I think that showed what hotels look like when you go over them with a light to show all the bodily fluids?? Ewwww.....even the BIBLE had semen on it!!! To make sure they pretty much HAVE to wash the blankets and stuff, I always strip the bed again in the morning, and leave the pile of sheets, blankets, and wet towels all together. Then EVERYthing is wet, and HAS to be washed. : ) Also....I know I might be making some woman's day by leaving her a clean room to clean. : )

Not all hotels and motels are like that and though I understand how it could be frightening to entertain the notion that they don't wash the bed linen I personally haven't had any problems.. hey if I can't see the bugs or germs that would potentially harm me and I'm still alive to talk about all the germs that i'm sure have attacked away since birth then I just don't worry about it..... my day will come soon enough

I do not use the blankets and bedspreads, toss them on the floor and enjoy my evening.
Do you have any idea how much it would cost to do all the laundering of evey bedspread, blanket, curtains, and shampoo the carpet after every guest.
Just think, you are walking on the carpet that a person with athlete's foot has been walking on yesterday. How gross.

Yes I am grossed out by it!!! I don't take my own bedding but it's not a bad idea! I can "live with" the sheets but not the spreads and blankets! I just pull them down and try not to touch them with my bare hands (or bare anything else!). Might not be a bad idea to start taking a little thin blanket in the car on trips! And I NEVER put a bare foot down anywhere! ALWAYS take your slippers and USE them!!!!

My mother works in a hotel, and yes they do wash them. They wash EVERYTHING. Every single day, covers are replaced as people check out. Rooms are cleaned. Everything is changed and made look new for the new comming person. If not, people will complain.
Plus, I'm not grossed out. In fact, I like hotel beds better. Much comfy and much bigger. :)

darn but you must be staying in some low class places..its a real health code violation not to put all clean bedding on a bed when guests check out and that includes blankets etc.the only thing that isn't changed is the mattress but that has a sealed cover on it that is changed..or it should have in order to pass health codes...if its a real problem then why not just check in and then 'discover ' something spilt on the bed ..lol..then they will have to supply you with new blankets etc.

Not all hotels are like that...tho I'm sure some are. Just pay the extra $ to stay at a nice hotel if you are that grossed out by it.
It's not worth freaking out over tho.
