I brought my cat over to a friend's place and all of a sudden the cat starts desperately trying to dig a hole in the carpet and lets loose with the worst bout of runs I have ever seen. My buddy is really mad at me. What could I have done?

You should clean and repair the carpet and not take your cat places it isn't familiar with. Most cats prefer to stay at home and can really flip out if they get scared. The only thing you could have done is not brought your cat there in the first place.

Have you taken your cat to other places? Maybe your cat is just more comfortable at home. Maybe he was afraid of your friend. Maybe he just got sick. Cats get the "runs" for a lot of reasons. I hope you appologized and offered to fix the carpet. That would be the best thing to do. If your buddy is still mad at you after that, maybe he's not really your friend. Most cats don't travel well. I can take my dog almost anywhere and she behaves well. Cats are another story. All three of my cats freak out when they're out of their usual environment. I would suggest leaving your cat at home from now on - and find a cat loving buddy!

Go to a pet store & buy the strongest pet accident cleaner they sell (sorry I forget the name) , rent a steam carpet cleaner & go clean up your mess. It's not cheap but ,it's less than buying new carpet or having it professionally cleaned. You are responsible. Only take your cat some where when you have to. Most cat prefer familiar territory. If you HAVE to take your cat, keep it in a carrior.
Live & learn .... right?....I feel your pain! LOL

Some cats get really scared & nervous in places that are unfamiliar to them, and they do get the runs. Not only that, but, there was no place specific for the cat to go potty, so he chose the closest spot, poor thing. The right thing to do is clean and replace your bud's rug!

It wasnt the cats fault. Leave him/her home next time!

Dude, i feel for you... Your cat must be very PO (pissed off). I would suggest helping your buddy clean the mess and give some catnips to your cat as a peace offering.

Nothing except left the stressed kitty at home where the kitty was safe and happy.

Offer to have your friend's carpet cleaned.

Its an animal- and any person who expects an animal to behave "as we think they should" is just ignorant and I hope they never own an animal. I wouldnt do anything except attempt to get the stain out- and the stink. I mean- GET REAL - what is s/he going to do when their kid lets it rip loose all over the place ??? (which will happen- believe me). Its just poop. We all do it.
