Yes I too have battled that problems. Medications can be a trial and error. So please after giving a medication a fair chance and taking it right let your doctor know if it is not helping. Sometimes changes are necessary when you have been on the same medication to many years, but yes they work and it's really no big deal but if you ever need to chat I'm here for you OK. But take meds as directed very important. Do not skip doses etc. And with in a day or two you actually will start to feel better. ( I know the doctor said about 2 weeks but you can tell before) Just remember if you ever need someone who understands contact me, I care, could probably tell you more but there are many personality problems have have several. Personality disorders originate during your younger years and the way you view things. I have not known medications to work for the personality disorders. It usually takes long term individual therapy to find out where the issues started and then you have to learn to change your personality. This will be a long term treatment so do not give up. Dialectical behavioral therapy is one of the best therapies for people with borderline personality. Try to find a therapist that specializes in this type of therapy.

This can be a really tough one to accept, because the philosophy is, "I hate you...but don't leave me!" thinking. It's especially hard because it affects all the people you are close to moreso than other disorders (in my opinion). I would definitely recommend therapy--cognitive behavioral therapy--where you learn how to start thinking in such a way that can change your behavior toward people before you react how you would normally react. There've been books written about it, but 'talk' therapy would be the best place to start. Meds can help tremendously too. Until you can change the way you think more, I'd do both. Also, if you have a significant other or parents or anyone you are very close to that you react to in different ways, let them in on it so that they know you aren't purposely trying to alienate them and cling to them at the same time. Good luck.

Personality Disorder usually is first noticed in childhood and adolescence. There are 10 different types of personality disorders. And each has their own s/s.
Generally someone with personality disorder have rigid patterns of thoughts and behavior. The person deviates form others in their culture.Such as
interpretation of self and others
deviated emotional responses to others or situations
difficulty with impulse control.

I too suffer from a personality disorder(among many other mental illnesses).I take a Neurontin and Lamictal as mood stabilizers that help with the personality disorder.Give the meds a chance to work.Depending upon what meds you have been prescibed,it could take any where from a few days to 3 weeks to work. But give it time,it may take trial and errors of medications to find=d the one that is right for you. They tried me on several before they found the ones for me,it has been worth it for me.

I do & if I forget to take my meds for 6 weeks, I will try to commit suicide every time. Take them. Even if you feel like you are better. Sometimes I get mad & "punish" myself by not taking my pills. My emotions are all over the place. I have taken zoloft since I was 13 for this. I hate living this way. I hate that I have to be medicated to survive. I hate letting people into my life but I am so afraid of being left alone at the same time. I think borderlines are their own worst enemy. Every thought I have, I fight myself over. It's a compulsion. It's a battle everyday. I wish you luck.
