Sure. Being a dumbass is defined by actions and choices, things that are obviously stupid. Being a smartass is a way of speaking and interacting, a personality trait. You don't actually have to be smart to be a smartass...just mouthy.

Yes, it's possible. Depending on what topic I'm discussing or asked about, I can be a real dumb asss, and it also depends on how exhausted I am to think; then other times, depending on how familiar I am with the topic or how fresh I feel, I can be a smart asss and enjoy it.

smartass could mean ur smart or your fresh and being bad. A dumbass could be when ur dumb and when u make dumb decisions.Yes it is possible!
