ok what they're basically worried about is the following:
guy walks up to house:
parent opens door, grabs girl, and says to guy: ok you bastard get off my property and away from my daughter before I call the police. I'll count to ten. and if you ever come near her again I will personally rip your head from your neck... etc...
or something like that. it's been known to happen...
at any rate they're worried about that... or something like that...

Because you have to try your hardest to make a good impression. The parents are usually the ones with the most influence over your partner. If the parents don't like you it can cause a lot of problems in the relationship.

People get nervous because they want to impress their parents. If their parents are not impressed it would be hard to make a relationship

well in my case i was meeting my fiances parents for the first time. It is reallt nerve racking because you are trying to make a good imprerssion and you really want them to like you. I was extremly nervous. Even when he met my parents for the first time i was nervous, because i really want them to like him, After the initial nervous moments everything kind of calms down, but it is still really nerve-racking.

Well most people want to put on a goodimpression. and would like the elders of the world to respect them and accept them for there man hood . So any smart guy dont want to ruin there relationship cause they were a jerk and unliked by her parents or thought of as less then average... and vice versa for the gal.....

well usually you meet the parents if you both want to take the relationship further SO your nervous because you want there family to like you . cause if they dont you will prob be dumped
