Continue. You are learning important things.
When I was in nurses training I worked part time on call as a nurses aid and that helped me learn and get confidence.
You are in training that is why you make mistakes and lack confidence in what you are doing. This happens in any job.
You have put so many years in to your training don't give up now. With your four year degree you can choose a speciality and zero in on one aspect of nursing. Righ now you are learning everything.
The world needs nurses. Don't give up. We all get nervous.
My first nursing job I was 21 Yr old and scared stiff when I was put in charge of 75 convelesant patients. The aids and orderliles saved my butt often because I had the book and schhooling, but they had the years of practical experience. Soon, I had the confidents that matched my job.
I suggest that you start asking more questions while you are working. I remembering looking at orders as a student and not haveing a clue of where to begin. When you do actually work, you will be trained in their routiens. and often there are ward clerks that do much of the paperwork.
The world needs nurses and you have managed to come this far, Don't give up.
When I was a nurse we wore white dresses and white caps, white nylons and shoes. Hubba hubba *smile*

Find another career. You will be dealing with life and death situations, and if you are always nervous, you will not be able to make rational, good decisions when you need to. Further, if you can't even follow doctor's orders, then you do not belong in nursing. There is some good news, though. First, you have recognized the problem before anything consequential has happened. AND, you can take the education you have and extend it a bit and work in another career such as teaching or working in medical records. Whatever you do, move on from nursing.
Good luck!!

You need to go in and job shadow before they unleash you on patients. If you have any questions ask. Ask a nurse's aid. Ask a nurse. Ask a medical student.
Ask a medical student if you can practice with them.
Bring a cheater book with you.. they have pocket ones at Borders and Barnes and Noble.
Write everything down.
make cheater note cards... aka
How to change a wound
How to handle chest pain
How to administer a certain drug, like insulin.
Those will help you.
Ask to not be put on Labor and Delivery if you can't handle it.
The best way to get over fear, is to face it, and learn.
It'll get easier.
Grab one of the medical students, or one of the nurses and ask for some help getting used to it.

We everyone make mistakes. Just be responsible, when you do something wrong solve the problem the best way you can (or ask help). Recognize early your mistakes, and be brave and solve them. Don't feel so embarrased, you are too busy taking care of your patients to set aside time for that useless feeling.
Until you overcome the fright don't mess with Emergency room or Intensive care unit if you can choose where to go.

Sounds like you would have a problem no matter what job you do. You may just need some help with self-confidence. Don't waste your time or schooling and go get some help from a counselor and continue along the path you are on. Good luck.

If you have the financial stability to try something else than you should. At this point there isn't much you can do other than take chances and try to get better. Don't let yourself be governed by your fears. Next time you go to the hospital you should force yourself to do something you are uncomfortable with. Continue doing that every day and eventually it will begin to seem more natural. Finding a career isn't easy and it won't come naturally.
