Because a lot of restaurants use preservatives in their food to make it appear fresher, longer...such as MSG. My mother has a very low tolerance for it and has the same reaction....only hers is within hours of eating out at such a place.

Best thing to do is keep a list of those places which give you 'the runs' and avoid them if at all possible. If you can't, make sure your waiter understands that you're sensitive to any food additives and order something that they can't mess too much with....steamed veggies and grilled meat....it could be just your favourite dish that you have problems with.

Good luck...and let us know how it comes out....(sorry, bad pun)

Depends on what you are eating, and where you are eating. Probably too much fat or grease and your intestinal tract isn't used to it or can't handle it. You could just be sensitive to certain foods, that your stomach does not tolerate. If you are lactose intolerant and eat pizza, milkshakes, etc. this could be a problem as well. Try to remember what you ate that gave you the diarrhea, and look for any similarities, and avoid those thing in the future.

It may be something they put in the food, something you have no idea that's there, so it would be hard to find what's causing it. If this occurs, you're better off eating at home the foods only you prepare so you know exactly what's in it.

The food is E. coli comtaminated, ~ unclean handling of food by workers..... full of bacteria from improper cooking or cooling, or your system is not used to the food you ate...this happens with new spices or a type of food you try for the first time if your digestive system is sensitive to it!!!!
