Sleeping is such a serious issue. I had serious health issues all because I hated to sleep! Once I got 6-8 an night, it was like a miracle my illness and muscles pains went away!

Establish a routine- a set time, place and "Wind down" times. Literally schedule it. Don't eat 3-4 hours before bed and most importantly Stop drinking any caffeine 4-5 hour prior to that sleep time. No chocolate or sugar as well, both are stimulates. Drink only water and warm liquids like chamomile tea.

No TV or Reading in bed at all. These will mentally stimulate you.
Do listen to music (best if -no words) to relax your mind, set it to a timer and turn off the lights. This will condition you to fall asleep to that music. [I liked Return to Pooh Corner by Kenny Loggins] Good Luck and Sweet dreams

Anything containing tryptophane. Milk and turkey are two biggies (Causing many a nap during the football games.) You may be able to get it at a health food store. Otherwise, warm milk does work.

Alcohol is a depressant, but if you're not of age or into that, that's ok too. Warm milk, or anything to fill the belly before bed. Benadryl may also work too, 25-50 mg before bed.

Turkey may help you sleep. Warm milk, or chamomile tea. Sometimes just something in your tummy helps, so try easily digested food(NO nightmares that way) like saltines, oatmeal, or dry toast in small quantities.

Don't drink to much. You will only wake up in 4 hours and won't be able to go back to sleep.
