It's the medications. Vicoden makes me puke like crazy! It's awful. Ask for something like Darvocet or take 600 mg of advil. Ice packs and keep yourself elevated too.

Ok here's a story - our dental surgeon - fantastic reputation - believes in preventative thearpy. When my boys were early teen (just a few years ago) he did a full panaramic x-ray of their jaw. One son had 3 wisdom teen the other had 4. He could see by how they were situated in their mouths that there was no way that if they erupted there would be room without disrupting the placement of their permanent teeth. So we decided to have the wisdom teeth taken out before they came in. Both boys done at one time - appointment made - one guy was 15 - one 17. It was suggested the appointment made for a Friday morning. The boys had what is known at laughing gas and freezing - I'm telling you they didn't feel a thing and were *happy* all the way thru it :-) This surgeon is so good - he had both boys done and back in the waiting room in and hour. The came home with Tylenol 3's - which yes they used. They were tender and ate lightly that weekend but were back to school on Monday. The oldest boy did develop a small infection at one surgical spot but that was quickly cleared up but that was the only problem. Good luck with your procedure - ask questions before you have it done (maybe its too late now - but maybe you should have asked if they had nitrous oxide?)

The anesthesia can definitely play a huge part in causing you to vomit. I've heard people getting sick from morphine. If you took the vicoden without food, that could cause vomitting I believe.

Probably the Vicoden... or the morphine
The pain meds plus the stress on your body of the surgery... combined with blood loss....
All of those trigger a violent reaction by your body, to try to get rid of all that blood you swallowed.

Swallowing blood can make you vomit or it could be an intolerance to the pain medication give to you. Anything with codeine in it makes me sick.

You can become nauseous or vomit from blood draining into your stomach, your pain medications, or the anesthesia they used. Call the oral surgeon and ask them to prescribe phenergan.

The morphine probably upset your stomach and made you vomit. Heroin does the same thing the first time you take it. As you should know morphine and heroin are from the same drug category.

Swelling of the gums can touch the back of the tongue which could elicit a gag reflex.
