A. What does the error mean?
we still have the manual and it says nothing about a bad disk error
B. We rented the movie, and thought perhaps it was really the disk, so returned it for a new one, and turns out it did the same thing.
C. What originally happened was, we put the DVD in the player, it played the first 30 minutes of the movie, then it stopped and said "Bad Disk"
D. We went out and bought a DVD Player Cleaner, didnt work.

Any Suggestions?

This is not a new DVD Player, we've had it for over a year, but have never had this problem before.
And it hasnt been moved recently so it hasnt gotten bumped aroud at all.

Usually this error is due to a scratch, dirt, fingerprints etc. The only other thing you may try is cleaning the dvd disk itself with a very soft cloth and cd cleaner spray...get no prints on it at all by holding it carefully at the edges. If this still doesn't solve things...you know the player is at fault. Could be a misaligned laser and there isn't any reason to accept that if its new. Take the DVD player back and have it exchanged for another.

If you happened to purchase this as an "open box" item, it may have been returned previously due to this problem. Sometimes stores don't always remove damaged items from the floor.

There shouldn't be any problem in return as long as you have the receipt. If the next one does the same thing, consider purchasing a different make.

Good luck

I know that there is more than one format for recording on a dvd and not all dvd players are compatable with all recording formats but the link above is someone talking to a tech support website that has had a similar problem as you.
