He is very good with dogs. He has natural ability, and I think he has also done thorough research on dog training. Most of his work is focused on training the owners to calm and control the dog rather than working with the dog itself, which makes perfect sense. His shows are enlightening on how to deal with dogs that have developed serious problems. I haven't seem him address less serious behavior problems (Has anyone seen him do an episode on housetraining? If so, when?). I would be interested to see some work on a wider variety of problems and on puppies. I would also like to see solutions beyond making the dog walk nicely (I think it is only part of the equation).

Dog training methods are constantly changing. I remember the first Boxer I trained with treats, by the second it was reccomended using praise only. And these were under the same trainer & club only a few years apart! Anyone remember Barbara Woodhouse? Some of her methods would be considered pretty archaic, maybe even cruel today. What Cesar does seems to work very well, and both controlling the dog & pleasing the owner go a long way toward establishing a healthy, enduring pet/owner bond. Did you know most dogs are given up to shelters or abandoned due to behavior issues that could most likely have been solved with the help of a good trainer? So sad & just wrong. So, it is great to see someone on TV that brings training into the limelite. The more people see how much training can do, the more likely they are to work on their own problems with their pets. Cesar is a lifesaver - not just to the dogs he meets in person, but by the hope he inspires in those who watch his show.

Just notice that the show is edited, and although it looks like the dogs are magically "fixed", the show does not film the follow up. It's very common for dogs to act subdued and intimidated around an alpha stranger. Getting the dogs to act differently right off the bat is not amazing. Amazing would be if the dogs were permantly fixed, but they don't show that in the program.
Cesar has some good things to say, but he also has some extremely dangerous "do not try this at home" ideas for dog training. His methods should be followed with caution.

I've never seen the show cuz can't get cable here but I just read an article on him in Purina's "Dog's Life". It said he's helped many pooches belonging to celebrities such as Oprah Winfrey, Nicholas Cage, Hilary Duff, Michael Bay, and Ridley Scott. He's run a Dog Psychology Center in Los Angeles for eight years now. He said in nearly every case the problem is the owner and not the dog. Most owners begin with affection and then lay down the rules. He said the best way to do it is begin with exercise and disipline and then affection. He said " You have to be the pack leader... which means mastering a calm but assertive voice and being ready to correct". And I agree with him on that

I find it very exciting how one Cesar Millan question is completely full of people who think he is a huge clueless doofus, and the following query is filled with humans who roughly support him. Anyways you will see that clips of his show on Youtube. That you would be able to also see a few of his indicates aired on Discovery Channel, and most often Animal Planet. And, the DVD's are for sale (try Ebay for these). I think Cesar has a number of great recommendations. I think more dogs in our society are badly behaved as a result of being horribly spoiled and untrained, than badly behaved due to a lack of spoiling. I really like that he teaches that dogs aren't people, that puppies need constitution and principles, and that going for a leashed walk along with your dog is among the major matters you are able to do. I really like how he shows how little changes on your possess habits could make your canine way more calm. And i love how he says that any form of collar, leash or even training method can be amazing on the correct dog, and when the instructor is trained ample to make use of these tools thoroughly. I also feel that numerous his methods are not for the general public to make use of, as he's utilizing them on numerous dogs that have very severe behavioral and psychological issues. The huge majority of people's pets is not going to need something virtually as severe. I believe that "flooding" a dog with the article he's aggressive/apprehensive closer to simply teaches him to suppress his warning indicators except he can not take it anymore. I additionally think that alpha rolling a canine isn't something that must mostly be achieved, except in possibly a relatively extreme need for instantaneous manage.

I think Cesar is great with dogs, but I have a suspicion that he probably does more work with the "troubled" dogs that is not shown on tape. Just a speculation - not necessarily true!
But the "shh" sound really works! . . Try it with your dog!

The show is fantastic and he is brilliant. We are working with a puppy using his philosophy and everything is so much easier.
Some of the people on the show really should not be dog owners much less parents.
