How good are you at writing?

I have been on Yahoo! Answers for about a month now, and I have noticed that people are very bad at writing. So this is why I made this self-assessment just for you guys. On a scale of 1-10, rate yourself on how good you are at writing.

I **have been *** (passive voice) on Yahoo! Answers for about a month now (redundant) , and I have (passive again) noticed that people are very (unnecessary adj) bad at writing. So (comma needed) this (undesignated pronoun) is why I made this self-assessment just for you guys (slang) . On a scale of 1-10 (spell out ordinal numbers under 10), rate yourself (s/b plural) on how good (s/b effective or accurate) you are at writing.

I don't write well, but I love to edit!! LOL!

I LOVE to write, and people always tell me how good I am... but I don't take myself that seriously. Even though I would like to write books... I can't post a story on here! You'll have to see for yourself, good writing is in the eyes of the reader! I give myself about a 5 or 6.

Poem In The Making

Words jumbled up on the page,
Pencil scribbling till the lead wears thin.

Not sure where this poem is going,
The lines will not quite fill up.

The clock ticks as I grab for adjectives,
The sun fades along with my ideas.

This poem never seems to fit,
Nothing inspires me at all.

My room is the same.... not enlightening,
The music playing too typical.

Writing this poem took so long,
All the thoughts took so much nudging to come.


This poem is just a bunch of words,
Words that took all this time to think of.

Thank you for offering the opportunity for us to 'self-assess' our writing skills by way of "range" to rate the performance. Not wanting to think too highly of myself, I would venture to say my writing skills would warrant at least an 8. I am basing this evaluation on the 10 years I have taught English/Language Arts in middle and high school. Additionally, I have taught English As A Second Language and Writing Skills to Immigrants from Asian countries at a particular work place. Finally, I have several poetry books, instruction manuals and short stories that have made their way into print. This doesn't make me an expert, but it does indicate I do enjoy writing and when in this forum, I try to ensure my writing and spelling skills are up to par. (smile)

While you are correct that many people don't respond with writing well, as a teacher, I would encourage that no matter what - write. I would rather have my students write something and allow me to show them how to become better writers, than for them to maintain a defeatus attitude and give up all together. It can be frustrating - but that is the life of a teacher. We continue to work with those who really need us, and those who just need a helping hand. I'm a brilliant writer. Seriously, keep in mind that people from all over the world can log in here and many are not writing in their native language. Also, a lot of kids use Y!A and are still learning. Cut them some slack.

Expressing my thoughts has always been a problem for me, and same is the case here, indeed I have improved a bit, thanks to yahoo answer, but still I cannot convey my idea the way I want it to be conveyed. So I'll say that I'm an average writer.
