I'm an Audiologist; and my son had chronic ear infections from 6 months of age. He was healthy and I breast-fed, but he inherited them from his dad (who had ear problems his whole life).

Acetaminophen or ibuprofen to reduce fever and relieve pain. Heat applied to the ear also helps ease some of the pain and pressure. A warm bath with a baby massage after might help her relax a bit more, especially if she's feverish.

I know from my experience with my son and also from trying to perform hearing tests on babies, that there is nothing more frustrating than a baby that won't sleep. Rocking helps, as does the singing or music. My trick is the "butt-pat" -- I lay the baby on his/her belly and turn the head to one side (with a pacifier, if they use it). I rest one hand across the shoulder blades to discourage them from pushing their head up, then with the other hand, I steadily tap their rear end. It can take some time, and you want to maintain a steady rhythm to the patting. and don't be too gentle, or they won't feel it through the diaper. You can still sing and comfort her, but I've found that continually jostling so your arms don't fall asleep before she does will only stimulate her more.

Also, make sure to give her the medications your doctor has prescribed as directed -- too often people don't finish the antibiotic, and not all the bacteria get killed off, so the infection comes right back.

As someone noted, if the baby is flat on her back when drinking, the fluids can go up the Eustachian tube that opens when swallowing and breed bacteria. Most kids get a few infections each year, and tend to outgrow them as their skull changes the angle of the Eustachian tubes. I used to massage my sons jaw right below the ear and that would help him to relax and fall asleep. You can also give her infant Tylenol if it doesn't interfere with her antibiotics. A warm compress to the ear that is hurting also helps, like just a warm wash rag or even a heating pad. I had ear infections all the time when I was little and I am allergic to penicillin and the other antibiotic they used to give me. At time my mother would give me some Aqavit, (liquor), to help me sleep, and that worked too, but people seem to frown on that kind of thing these days. Good luck.

Well I am sure you are giving the baby the medicine she needs, along with a little Infant Tylenol. So when it is time for her to sleep, don't put her down in the crib with a bottle to fall off to sleep. I would, if you have a rocking chair or a chair to sit in and rock her, and sing to her! I have the best memories as a Mom of singing my three kids to sleep!! It is a very bonding time, love 'em all more and more each day and they're in their teen years!!! Where did the time go? Hope you can hang in there with it all and she feels better!!!

I had a new child with persistent ear infections till i began utilising echinacea as a mushy anti-biotic for her. you should purchase it as a glycerite and this is totally candy and he or she will take it. I additionally gave her mullein tea with somewhat maple syrup daily as a prevention. It keeps the fluid out of the ear. My daughter became into decrease than one, your daughter is sufficiently old to tolerate goldenseal that's a much better antibiotic than echinancea. at the same time they'd desire to do the trick in a glycerite, however the flavor situation could be difficult. My daughter, now an adolescent, went swimming and have been given fluid in her ear a pair of weeks in the past. She became into having allot of discomfort, so on my morning stroll I picked some mullein flower and yarrow. I infused those with olive oil that I had formerly infused with calendula; she's carrying it around along with her all of the time now. you should purchase this type of ear oil as suggested. perfect of success! here is the place you will come across a great product made with the aid of Herbs for toddlers

I'll tell what I did. Now I have fond memories of those long nights but chances are that it might not look that convincing to you: After applying doctor prescribed pain killers, I'd take my babies to a rocking chair and I'd held them against my chest in an upward position, and I'd rock back and forth. After a few minutes they'd fall asleep and so would I but without moving from the rocking chair, till daybreak.
Their mom was never aware of the whole commotion. I was glad that she was able to sleep soundly all throughout. Now I'm divorced and these are a few of the good memories I have. Now I'm grateful.

Have you treated the infection. She will need pain and fever reducer for babies immediately! My kids have always calmed down and were able to sleep once the pain went away. Have you been to the doc? Most infections need antibiotics. Don't mess around with infections my son suffered hearing loss and a crucial age and missed out on hearing important sounds for being able to speak properly and now we have to teach him how to say his sounds properly. We have to rewire the poor guy.

The only way she's going to sleep is when her ear pain is lessened enough or she get exhausted from crying. Talk to the doctor about how much baby tylenol she can have, make sure she gets her antibiotics on time, grin and bear it knowing you love her.

Try a warm lavendar bath. I used to get ear infections all the time as a baby/kid (eventually had tubes put in) and my mom said those always helped me. They sell the "bubble bath" stuff now. Its like soothing lavendar or something like that. I used it on a girl I babysat a few weeks ago. Besides that, try anything that comforts her. Rocking her in your arms, singing to her, just holding her. Sometimes babies need to just fall asleep in their mother's arms. Its not coddling the baby either. Good luck!!!

Could be teething. Every time they cut new teeth, they tend to get crancky, restless and ear infections. See doctor for ear infection. He/She will probably prescribe a antibiotic (Amoxacillan) or so. for the ears. Teething trouble, I recomend flavor ice popsicles for you to hold for the baby just prior to sleep. The cold feels good on the teeeth and the flavor gets them to do it.
