I'm torn on this issue because how could someone not want someone else in there country without being racist. If it were white people coming to this country from other countries I don't think there would be such a fuss about the issue.

No, if you're against illegal immigration that doesn't automatically make you a racist. It depends on whether the person is actually a racist or not. There are some people against illegal immigration that are racist, America would be lying if they said that there weren't any. But of course then you have people like me who just want the laws of this country to be upheld, I don't break the laws, so why should someone else who isn't even a citizen of this country be aloud to.

I think that immigrants are different by definition. Nowadays we usually talk about folks form Mexico or south america, but at times it has been Chinese, Eastern Europeans or others.

Illegal immigration is a complex subject. Obviously, people want to come here because it allows them an opportunity for a better life... both for them and their family when they send money back. Its not difficult to imagine that breaking the law by entering the country illegally is an easy crime not to lose sleep over... its not as if anyone were murdered or robbed.

On the other hand, the government has the absolute right to control its borders. Nobody denies that we're a country of immigrants, and immigration will continue. The key is to have some kind of measured flow... so that the melting pot isn't overwhelmed.

So I guess to finally answer your question... it depends. If you think "those Mexicans are ruining everything for everyone else" you're probably edging towards racism. If there's social effects you don't like.. kid's classes are too big... services can't be provided..health care costs more... you're probably on pretty solid ground.

If you were coming here legally and following the law, no one would say a word. However, if you crossed the border illegally and you refused to learn English and preferred to jabber in Spanish all the time while flying the Mexican flag - you need to go home. And feeling that way about illegals certainly doesn't make you a racist - it just means you want to get the lawbreakers out of the country.

To be a racist, you have to have identified a race. Illegal is not a race. Illegal immigrants come from all races. If you assume that all illegal immigrants are from one race, maybe you are the racist. If the issue was African immigrants and everyone was up in arms, then I would say, yes, it is a racist issue. If the issue were Russian immigrants and everyone was up in arms, then yes again. And so on.

To be against illegal immigration is not to be against immigration. I am TOTALLY against illegal immigration, but I am TOTALLY for LEGAL immigration. My husband is African. If we ever plan to live in the US he will have to LEGALLY immigrate. Are you getting the picture.

I think the reason there are so many angry people on this forum is that they are horrified at the audacity of a bunch of people living ILLEGALLY in the US demanding more rights from our government. I mean, wouldn't you be flabbergasted if a bunch of, I don't know, French people in France started protesting that the US wasn't allowing them to go to our universities for free, or if a bunch of Chinese people in China were demanding welfare payments, or if a bunch of Australians in Australia were protesting that they were not allowed to vote in our next presidential election, OR if a bunch of Americans in America were protesting that Russia requires a visa from them to work there? I mean, it is ridiculous, isn't it?

That's not what my problem with illegal immigration is based on. Whether or not the illegal immigrants protest or keep their heads down, it is harmful to them, it is harmful to legal applicants for immigration, and it is harmful to the US economy. What's racist about that?

You can't really be that stupid????.. this has nothing to do with racism it has to do with the law.. did you miss the ILLEGAL immigration.. ya know where people come in against the law and drain the system cause they don't pay taxes etc etc etc... now if someone was against immigration all together than they are a racist mother*&^er.. this is about the law and upholding it not about race.. get a clue.

no it doesn't make you a racist. just understand tho they are illegal, most of them have a reason. and most of the time it's because the US just wont stop controlling their country. say for example the only reason pple would come to the US is for money issues or security. and they can't really advance because to many big powers controlling their government so hey they have to eat somehow right.

there are legal immigrants in this country. most people are upset..because of the word IILEGAL. people have to follow a procedure to come into this country. applying for visas..green cards//and other type forms... people study our language..rules and regulations..our history... they test..become naturalized citizens. those who do this...and work hard to become an american citizen..should not have to put up with others sneaking in... if they had to follow the rules..everyone should. also a number of illegals.. have criminal backgrounds.. rapist... murderers. we have enough crime already without adding another countries..problems. so it is not about racism...it is about doing things the right way.The legal way

If you don't want me living in your garage, does that mean you just don't like people like me? Or maybe you think I should be paying you rent, HA! or buy my own place. Please! You should welcome me into your garage, after all, I'm a person, and I want to be there. What right do you have to decide who lives in your garage?

Being against illegal immigration is no more racist than being against tax evasion or shoplifting. This is a nation of laws, and your government is refusing to enforce the law.

No they are not a racist. People against illegal immigration are against the process they are using it is illegal. They understand why they are doing it, but that doesn't make it right.

No!!
Only if someone is against LEGAL Immigration, or is in favor of deporting all those who decided to enter our country legally can be considered a racist.
