Why or why not? Why do people think it is necessary for you to socialize with people their age?

No, it just means you are more mature for your age. Old people rule! As people get older, they become more knowlegable, worldly, and interesting. So, you hanging out with them is a good thing. Broaden your horizons. LOL.

All growing up I preferred to socialize with more mature adults and have wonderful conversations instead or hanging out with people my own age. However, as I got into my teens and early 20s I enjoyed my peers a lot. I'm now 28 and besides my husband, my best friend is my mom because she's mature and I can say anything. I know it takes a lot of effort to entertain someone your own age if you're more mature and focused and not into clubbing, getting drunk, or being stupid. Good luck!

I often think the same thing. I'd much rather have a lively conversation with older people than kids my age. They have so much more to say and actually talk about real subjects, instead of worthless vain things. But from me, it's not weird at all. It shows instead a sign of maturity.

It's not unhealthy but you are interested in examining your motives - always a good sign.
Is it possible that you haven't fit in with your age group - you've felt like an outsider for whatever reason.
Older people will accept you for who you are, not measure you by pop standards.
You will find people closer to your age with whom you are comfortable. Just enjoy the companionship for now.
Maybe there's a career in it for you?

No, its fine to socialize with older people. If you feel like you want to be in your age group then do so. Otherwise there are benefits to hanging with the elderly. You both benefit.

Now watch it, who exactly are you calling old????
LOL

Actually, I much prefer hanging out with older people. There's nothing wrong with it at all. The older you get, the wider the age range of your friends will become.

I'm in my 30's and I have friends ranging from their teens to their 80's.

No, it's just the opposite. Older folks can impart vast wisdom your way. They can be seriously interesting. Why people think you should associate with people your own age is beyond me. I don't think you should exclude people your age, though. I like people of all ages. I don't subscribe to any sort of political correctness.

'nuff said?

You do need balance, so socialize with all age groups. But, if you are that drawn to the elderly, please consider a career that will allow you to work with them (us, if we live long enough). Or, check with the nursing homes or retirement homes (there is a difference) in your area for work. Nursing assistant, orderly, housekeeping are a few ideas.

I've always appreciated the company of "older" and "wiser" ppl. I feel as though they are more on my level. I don't have a chip on my shoulder or anything but I think most 20 somethings just aren't mature enough for my taste. DON'T HATE! lol
