i would get him a card and if he has given you anything small, like a ring or something, i would put it in the envelope with the card on his birthday. then in the card i would write something like, the past two years have been really good, (or however you feel about them) and i think we should keep the friendship we have but see other people. tell him not to open the card until there is no one around. that way he enjoys his birthday and hopefully he isnt too embarressed because no one was around at the time. then call him the next day and tell him how you feel, and to make sure you two are okay.

If you have wanted out of the relationship for 2 years you are only hurting him more by leading him on. You need to sit him down and tell him how you feel and tell him that you love him enough to let him go, that the relationship died for you two years ago and you are sorry but you didn't want to stop him from moving on with his life and finding true happiness with someone else.

He must really be a jerk if you've been trying for two years. Do it on the 10th every year he'll remember how bad he messed up if you dump him on his birthday.

well you haven't been trying to hard maybe you just wasted two years of both of your lives maybe you need to be true to yourself and him if it has been that bad didn't he get a hint that is the way that you felt well good luck maybe you should do it soon before he thinks that this is a great relationship and wants to be married and you are afraid to tell him and end up married well then you are stuck and afraid to get divorced well that would be two ruined lives and imagine if you had kids if you arn't happy they won't be either well good luck

This is the stardom of your pathetic game playing life dear. Be a woman and just do it...Plenty of females feel that they must go with a bang, but I hope that you get the table turned.

wow...hmm...that's hard...
Try gently dumping him at his most laziest time (for most guys, it's from afternoon to evening) and if he's the type of person to get really mad, make sure it's in a place where a few people are around in case he does get hyper && mad.
And make sure you give him a legitimate reason.

Ask him if he thinks your relationship is great?
Ask him how he gets on with your dad?
Now tell your dad (the one who really loves you)
This guy isn`t the one, he will not be about much longer!
