Simple:

1. take a light approach on your past, learn from the mistakes, apologize to those you hurt, close accounts somehow with those who hurt you, balance everything out and step forward

2. take a light approach on your future, too, plan what you can, imagine the rest, save some of your energy for it and stop worrying, do something instead

3. concentrate on the present, do what need be done, and enjoy your life as it is TODAY

:-)

Living in the present moment is born from allowing yourself to release all longing, all distraction, and all anxiety. The idea is not to find a great giggle, like discovering a new bike under the Christmas tree, but instead to find contentment in the time you are living.

You asked, "will it be satisfying?" The answer depends on your search. Many people recognize satisfaction only in the momentary achievements or accumulations. Forgive the metaphor, but it's almost like a sexual orgasm. For the moment it feels great, but the joy soon fades.

Living in the moment is satisfying in a different way. It allows you to relinquish the thought that you have other things to attend to that are more important than your current life. This doesn't mean you don't make plans, but when you are making plans, you pay attention to making plans, not the worry of outcomes that are unlikely to occur or benefits you long to happen.

Living in the moment takes lots of practice. Meditation can help, as can learning some of the spiritual techniques discussed by Jon Kabat-Zinn.

The enemy of living in the present moment is routine.

Watch yourself and identify when you're doing anything out of habit, or mechanically, or as part of a routine. Then stop. What do you hear around you, and in your own body? What do you taste in your mouth? What do you smell?

When you're driving, pull over and get out. Look around. See how things are different from here. See how the sky looks without a roof over you.

When you eat, hold the food in your mouth and savor it. Pay attention to its texture. What's it made of? What do your teeth do to it? Feel it travel down into your stomach.

When you see other people, say "Hi" or hold the door open for them. Make eye contact. Smile.

Learn to follow your thoughts all the time. There's always something going on in there. Catch wrong thoughts and examine them. Why did you think that? Is it someone else's voice from the past? Throw it out if it doesn't help you now.

All these techniques can help anyone to live in the present moment, and yes, it will be satisfying.

You can live in the present moment by never thinking ahead, never planning, and never wondering what exists beyond your immediate surroundings.

I suppose it COULD be pleasent, except for all the "bad luck" you'll have as a result of never thinking ahead. You'll also live a much shorter life; people who don't plan tend to die more easily. They never see it coming.

"Living in the moment" isn't all it's made out to be. In fact, it's quite unpleasent for a human who's normally used to things going nicely, as a result of his ability to think and plan ahead.

"...it's hard to stay mad, when there's so much beauty in the world. Sometimes I feel like I'm seeing it all at once, and it's too much, my heart fills up like a balloon that's about to burst... And then I remember to relax, and stop trying to hold on to it, and then it flows through me like rain and I can't feel anything but gratitude for every single moment of my stupid little life... You have no idea what I'm talking about, I'm sure. But don't worry... you will someday."

By trying to be satisfied with what I have and living for and with the moment. Depleted I feel misunderstood & misused. But they who betrayed me will be trailing my footprints which will last forever in their hearts.......
