My ex bf and I are somewhat close. Lately we have not really talked and when we do talk we usually end up arguing. His grandmother died yesterday and I was wondering if its appropriate to send him a condolence card or not?

You should definitely send him a condolence card. You don't have to talk or argue to do that, it's simply an empathic gesture. Since he's your ex, just treat him as you would any friend.

Well if you have talked to him lately, I will tell him your sorry for his lose, I won't send him a card because a. cards don't always make that kind of situation any better and b. if you send him a card he may get the idea that you don't really want to talk to him. So I would make a point to either call him or when you run into him to tell him that you are sorry for his lose.
