No. Pit bull owners should make sure that their dog is well trained and socialized. I have a pit bull and he is awesome.
Last week I was over my friends house, we were outside. Just hanging out, well this car pulls up and parks close by. These 2 guys step out and as soon as they saw my dog, one of them froze and the other started to run. I told them not to worry about it.
Called my friends little 2 year old. She runs up.I tell her to hug Remey. She does. Kisses him on his nose and runs along. The whole time my dog was right next to me sitting. These guys were in shock. Came up and pet my dog. And he gave them kisses. Telling me that my dog was the nicest pit bull ever. My heart would be broken if someone told me I had to have my pit bull put down. It is really sad that people mistreat their dogs. THEY ARE THE ONES THAT SHOULD BE PUNISHED!!!!!!!!

I don't think that pitbulls should be killed, unless they have been trained by their owners to be mean and have shown that they are vicious (by either attacking another animal or a person).

ANY dog can be mean enough to kill. It's their animalistic nature. Dogs only know what they have been taught.

I feel that people are more afraid of pit bulls, first of all because of the name. Secondly, because some pit bull owners showed their stupidity and immaturity by training their dogs to fight and making them mean. Those people should be punished for subjecting innocent animals to such cruelty.

I strongly believe in the motto: "Punish the deed, not the breed."

People too often listen to everything the media blows out of proportion. Pit bulls aren't for everyone. I think BSL (breed specific legislation) is stupid and pointless. Its not the breed. Its the person behind the dog, its the bloodline behind the dog. I rescued a pit that would die for anyone, but was a fighting dog and wanted to fight many dogs. Ultimately I had to put her to sleep, which broke my heart, but she couldn't be trusted because of what people warped her mind to do. Had she been raised as a normal dog she would have been the best dog in the world. But she was doing what she was taught... what she thought would make the person happy. That's all they want. This is such a wonderful breed because they are so determined to make the owner happy.... even if it takes their life.... that is a true mans best friend. Willing to take pain and suffering for your happiness.
Before you judge read up on the breed on find out what is behind the reputation.
Not every middle-eastern person is a terrorist... not every pit is mean. Its all how they are raised.
I love the breed and do lots of rescue work. I have had one come though my program and is now a therapy dog and walks in parades. This puppy had such a ruff begining... was abused and left to die in a abondanded house in a kennel too small for her with both elbows broken. But this never stopped her from loving people.

Pitbulls are fighting dogs. They are naturally aggressive and are not ideal pets. People's desire to have pitbulls are for this very reason. As men we are attracted to beautiful women, fast cars and mean dogs. That's our nature. Such as fighting is the pitbulls nature. Most of the people I know that have pits do train them to be aggressive. Having a pitbull is like having a loaded gun in the house. It seems like a good idea until someone gets hurt.

I don't think any animal should be killed unless it is proven to be an agressive or attacked someone. I personally don't like pit bulls I think most who own them want them for the mean spirit and to use as an attack dog. Have you seen the footage for a 2 yr old in Indiana who was attacked by one for no reason while she was sitting in a stroller?? She is recovering but was in really bad shape. But you are right the dog will be however the owner trains them. But any dog can turn if provoked to do so!

If you love your dog and are not rich I'd move or find him a new home. If you get reported you will lose him if he is a good dog he will die because of a dumb owner living in the wrong town, and you will be heartbroken with a big fine. Most pitbulls in the right hands are loving dogs, that behave, it's the idiot trash out there that train them to fight, kill and attack, that get in the news and cause towns and cities to put up laws against the right owners owning them. please get him the hell out of dodge and move when you can to keep him alive...

punish the deed not the breed

Pitbulls can be very sweet, speaking from experience. But keep in mind that they were genetically bred for agression. while many pitbulls are very sweet and loving all the time, they still have the natural tendency in their genes to be aggressive. I think you should either sell the dog out of state or move, but try to avoid putting it down. Pitbulls aren't that bad.

I don't agree necessarily that they should be killed for no other reason than they are pitbulls, but I do believe that it's their instinct to be aggressive, along with Rotweillers and doberman pinchers. Every time you hear of a child being mauled by a dog, 9 times out of 10, it's by a pit bull. I don't think that's just coincidence.

I don't agree with making a breed of dogs illegal. You are right, it is the owner and not so much the dog. However, pit bulls are generally more agressive than, say a retiever. I don't know if I would leave the dog alone with a child, but I would make sure I train it and be a responsible pet owner.

No, The pitbulls are not mean, they are bred to be guard and huntnig dogs. A pitbull can be a very nice dog if its well taken care of, but if you mistreat any type of guard or hunting dog, it will become vicious. So if you are treating your pitbull well, then it is probably a loyal pet that will keep you safe if anyone trys to mess with ur house, or break in or somthing. If you mistreat it, It probably wil be vicious and you should give it to the humane scociety so they can treat it well and destroy its vicsious habbits.
