is it sleeping in on sundays, the odd sin-binge. what about guilt?

I really want to know - I can't shake this religious programing, I mean upbringing.

I'm agnostic leaning sometimes towards atheism, but I was raised Catholic.

The best part is being able to think for yourself. Reasoning and rationalizing life's big questions without feeling guilt if you don't conform. I mean how can that be possible? No one is ever totally Democratic or Republican. How can you follow a belief system totally and wholeheartedly when more likely than not you're going to have a difference in opinion with some finer issues?

Without religion I am a responsible human being and I have myself and the society I live in to answer to. I live to be a better human being for its own sake, not to please some evisceral being so I could come and live with him at his house after I die.

I think it's better that way.

Man, the best part about being atheist is that you dont feel guilty for things you shouldnt feel guilty about...

You also get the satisfaction of knowing that you are actually smarter than about 60% of the population of the world by the default... and you don;t waste your life following ridiculous dogma.

What pains me is how all these religious nuts tell us were going to hell for not outwardly expressing a belief in God. However, living on so-called God's path only entails being good to others and yourself... something a lot of Christians are not very good at, as they sit and condemn people to damnation even if they are fine people. It's all ridiculous...

The christian mentality...

"If you don't believe what I lbelieve, you will go some place so horrible that you can't even imagine it. And you will rot there. And if my blind-faith Christian a** kills someone... dont worry about it! I can go ask forgiveness and its allll good."

And Catholics, I don't want to hear the whole mortal/venial sin arguement as it pertains to my last comment. Trust me, I probably know more about religions than most. I study the things I don't understand and that interest me. That is how I became an engineer, and that is how I came to the conclusion that God as he is personified today doesn't exist.

Do you think that not believing in something makes it untrue? Try reading "Mere Christianity" by CS Lewis. I think often people opt for Atheism as a cop out. If you don't think anyone is in control, you have no one to be responsible to, no accountability. I also believe some people call themselves Christians and behave like Atheists. I think if you really honestly research the subject, you won't be an Atheist.

Truthfully, the best part about being an atheist is that it provides the opportunity to accept all people equally, regardless of religious beliefs.

During my over 30 years as a Christian, I instinctively opposed anyone who did not share my beliefs.

Being able to spend sundays with your family and celebrating every holiday without the hassle of getting dressed up and going to church. but to have fun with everything you do. I'm not saying its right to sin but some rules can be bent.

...I was waiting for someone to throw the bible quote out there. But god as alot of people know god know religion in its hypocrisy.

Its zenith of control is a system that makes man less then what he is and that's a supreme empowered individual free and happy and able to love.

Atheists are great teachers of god believe it or not. Believe in god is meaningless knowledge of good, love, and nurturing is not excluded from man being an atheist.. and to me that is god.

There is no "best part" because it's not a thing, it's just a term for a lack of something. That's like asking the best part of an idea you have not yet had. I'm just me, I just live my life.

I think a great part is having the awareness that you are the one who is responsible for the quality of your life by the choices you make.

Not knowing that you are going to go to hell when you die. I wouldn't want to know that, it's a pretty bad place.

Maybe you should find a good study group that can clarify questions and doubts that you have regarding religion.
